My New Obsession: Curling
It has now been four days in a row that I've woken up and watched curling. Yes curling. The sport (i guess it's a sport) where one guy slides a rock down ice while two other guys sweep the ice like crazed lunatics so the rock will go as far as it possibly can.
On Monday I had no idea what the point of the game (i've decided it's more of a game than a sport) was. It looked like two teams sliding big rocks into a bullseye. While this was going the announcers were saying things like "he has two much weight on that". What?
On Tuesday i'm starting to realize that the point of the game is to get more of your rocks into the bullseye than the other team. Also they play like ten innings, only they called them ends. The announcers keep talking about these guard things. What?
On Wednesday I realize that sometimes the teams will just slide a rock somewhere on the ice as a means of protecting the bullseye or guarding it. Eureka! Now I know i'm starting to get this game, it's all about strategy.
On Thursday (today) I'm now disagreeing with the announcers on where the next shot should go. I know that the term "weight" has to do with how hard the player slides the rock. You can hit the other teams rock out of the bullseye with your rock. I also realize that the principles of momentum and force are paramount in this game.
I figure by the end of the olympics next I'll be a curling expert. I'll be packing up to move to some place like Minnesota or Wisconsin. I'll be well on my way to joining the 2008 US olympic curling team.

Curling
I have noticed a lot of people become interested in curling. In the last olympics, it was presented as a weird sort of sport that they were assuming you'd never heard of. Now, everyone is talking about it. Who knew everyone would be talking about a sport where people sweep in front of a rock?! LOL!

My husband was watching this the other day, too, and figuring out the rules. It is somehow addicting to watch, isn't it?
It sure has more of a game feel than a sport. I wish I had ice around here.
