My new addiction... Nashville Star???

randomsun's picture

My girlfriend is a huge country music fan. When we first began dating I remember going over to her place and just about every night Late Night CMT was on. That was probably my first prolonged exposure to country music.

I'll be very honest in that I never really liked Country Music. Were it not for my girlfriend, I would have never discovered Cowboy Troy and been able to tolerate country music. I had this running joke with friends that I could write a country music piece which began with "Well my best cow died today..."

Anyhow, Cowboy Troy's style of country was appealing to me and I thought it was cool that here was someone taking a shot in a genre that doesn't really have any well know African Americans in it. If you haven't heard Cowboy Troy, I suggest checking out the song where he sings, "I played chicked with the train." It's quite catchy.

So it was almost natural for me to watch Nashville Star, Country's version fo American Idol, since Cowboy Troy was a co-host. Little did I know that I'd want to tune in again.

The country musicians and producers that serve as the judges panel are hilarious. First, you have the guys hitting on every female contestant. Then, you have the guys hating on other contestants and each other for "being a little too Brokeback". Then there is the producer lady who finds something wrong with everyone. This judges panel keeps it pretty real with Cowboy Troy are reason enough to make Nashville Star worth watching, country music fan or not.
