My Mother is My Superhero!
She's not out there fighting crime or anything..at least I don't think so. She however has been my strong tower all my life. I love her so very very much.
My mother had me when she was 19. It was sort of a pattern, because my grandmother had her when she was 19.
My mother was scared, because she was going to school at the time. She also had a baby for a married man, whose wife wanted to kill her and her baby very badly. She thought she was going to be turned out of her home. My grandmother had said if she got pregnant 'before time' that she would be out on the street.
She was scared, but she decided to keep me. Thanks Ma! My grandmother decided to keep us. Thanks Grandma! My father decided to keep his wife..boo Dad!
She gave birth to me just before her 20th birthday. She made the decision to continue with school and I remember going to class with my mother. The stipulation was that I had to be quiet as a mouse and I'd get a prize! She contributed to my love of English grammar and literature by reading her homework to me.
When I was 1 I became deathly ill, and she spent months in the hospital by my side.My dad's wife had poisoned me...and that was what made my dad decide to leave her. My mother had stayed with him through all this, but they broke up for awhile, when I was in the hospital. I got well and my parents got back togehter.
They were together until I was eight. During this time my mother opened her own real estate office and managed a bar with my dad. My dad cheated on her and she left him. She decided to move to the U.S. because she was uncertain about her financial future in Jamaica. Then she found out she was pregnant with my sister. She delayed her trip for two years. But when my sister turned one she left.
The state of things in the US being what they were she became a home health aide and cleaned people's homes. She moved in with her uncle and his wife, but left when his wife began to destroy her things because she was jealous of my mom's prosperity.
She began to go to school and work both jobs. Eventually she returned to real estate. The whole time she flew my sister and I up from Jamaica for vacations even though it was trying financially....
Soon after saving and living very very frugally she was able to buy a house and finish school. She worked as a children's counselor at a government home for boys. We moved in with her permanently.
One day my motehr began to go to church again. She was dating someone at the time and they broke up because God made a real impression on her life. She lost her job and found out she was pregnant again. Whammy Whammy Whammy. At the same time there was me being a teenage pain in the butt and my sister being a pain in general...I learned a lot about faith from my mother. She prayed through everything. I never exactly knew how close we were from being evicted...but it was close. She wrestled me into church even though I talked a pretty game about my not wanting to go and how she can't force her God on me and that God isn't real anyways and why the hell should I bother to go and how much I just really hated the idea of God and how she was just a slave to an archaic opinion and that evolution was right...God has brought me a mighty long way hasn't he?
She had the baby, but still had no job and then I got accepted to Middlebury the world's most expensive school...but they had amazing financial aid..so away I went.
My mother lost the house. But God gave her a bigger one ...right away. She just moved from one house to the next. She also had money from what the bank gave her from the other house to buy a bigger and better car. While I was in school my mom decided to go to nursing school and she became certified in Phlebotomy and EKG and something else..I forget. She got another job!
My mother is my superhero because there is no way that her life has been easy or is easy. But she is faithful to God and an example for me.She's also very industrious so she teaches me to be industrious...and frugal...lol. She also taught me how to love unconditionally and any good traits you see in me comes from my mother. People have been horrible to her after she's gone above and beyond for them...but no matter what she's still there to help. People have cheated her out of money. But when they were in need she held out a helping hand. Whenever I've gone through things, she's always been behind me all the way just encouraging me and cheering me on ... Whenever I'm sad or away from home she calls and prays for me. I remember when I got sick at school, she was there that evening, she took all the money she had and took a train up and stayed to take care of me. I love my Mummy. I see my friends and the weird relationships they have with their parents..and I am glad for the one mom I've got because I could always tell her things. I never even think to lie to her about where I'm going because I know its better if she knows than if something should happen and she is unaware.
Even when we butt heads...she's right there in the next second to hug me...I love my mother and she's my superhero!

Greetings to you and your mother.
A good story. She's certainly had her challenges in life. I'm sure you will spoil her for Mother's Day.
But of Course Tottie
spoil her rotten~

It is a year ago
since you posted this. Just before Mother's Day 2006 (at least it is Mother's Day in Oz) - nice that it has bobbed up again. I hope all's well.
