My magazine article-I am giving you hope

I think this entry is going to be to give hope to people who don't have any faith for the little things.

So lately I have been freelance writing for the magazine Calgary Living. It is a luxury magazine for the elite of Calgary. Quite interesting. It is more targeted for men than women but there is lots of cool shit in it.

Writing in a magazine is something I have always wanted to do. I don't usually read magazines or even look at the damn pics. My huge interest lies in advertisements-which is something I wanted to get into, and never did. So taking a chance I emailed one man for some advice as to how to get started to write for a magazine one day. I asked what kind of classes I could take to improve my skills, would I have to have experience, and overall how to get into the industry and get a chance to write for someone.
I believe that sent from above, this chance came to me-the man I wrote was CEO of this magazine. And he said-"once Laura, I was like you, I had a degree and needed a chance. I had to take baby steps once and everyone needs a helping hand. Come and see me and we can figure something out. I will take a chance on you." those were not exactly his words-but close enough. So after meeting, he gave me an assignment and I did my best. Not having any training or literary discipline, my articles needed to be perfected and changed quite often.
I really didn't care because I new I was not educated in the area of writing and was happy to learn from my mistakes.
So just last month my first article was published and I was the happiest woman alive to see my work in print. WOW did that feel damn good.
I celebrated.
My mom is totally stoked and extremely proud. She bought four copies.

So I just finished writing two more articles for the next issue-should be out around April I believe.
I would like to thank some of my friends for proof reading them for me and being honest about my work.

In conclusion, I have to say : don't be afraid to try the small steps-even if they seem crazy-always take advice and the best way to get it is to ask for it. There is always someone out there that wants to help you. Many people have been where you are today-so step up and put yourself out there. It feels great to know that you got yourself where you wanted to be.

Maybe one day I will expand and be famous??? You can too!
