My Loooong Rant

Do you mind if I post a blog I wrote for another site but can't post it on there?? We had this huge argument about TOS guidelines because one blogger on the site felt that they were being violated and whatnot. So I got mad, wrote this looooong blog, and wanted to post it. But in the interest of keeping the peace, I didn't. The argument has since been settled, but I put so much work into this thing, I have to post it somewhere. So here goes.

Disclaimer: The word "s*x" is mentioned in this blog. Stop reading if you're easily offended.

Maybe this is going to be a "sign off" blog for bdwick...at least on blogevolve. I don't know. To me, it seems like people in the general population of America think everything should be their way. Everybody should have to play by THEIR rules. And they feel they shouldn't have to put up with anything that they shouldn't have to. Well guess what. Everybody has to put up with stuff they don't want to. There's no getting around it. That's part of life. Toughen up and get a helmet because if you can't take it, you're gonna have a tough road ahead. Thats what these people who try to get TV shows taken off the air always do. It's the same kind of people that try to get people like Howard Stern taken off the airwaves. You know what? I'm not a Howard Stern fan. So you know what I do?? I don't turn it on the station that he's on. Hmm...is that too complicated?? You only have to listen to him for about 15 seconds to be able to tell what he's about. So why do people feel the need to complain about him? Just don't listen to him.

People in America are so hung up on sex and "perverseness." When was the last time a big deal was made by one of these family groups about violent shows? There are kids killing each other in the streets for no reason...but I guess the bigger deal is if they're having s*x. I know s*x is a problem. But how is shielding them from any mention of the idea going to help a kid? Some would argue that our society's s*x taboo is one of the reasons our teenagers are so promiscuous. I don't know the answer. I just know that my parents never tried to shield me from the idea and I was a v*rg*n until I got married at age 23.

Here's my point. I know a Christian family who doesn't agree with 90% of what's on TV. Did they make a big deal and try to get all those programs taken off the air?? No. It's none of their concern. Here's what they did instead. They went through their satellite provider and got a channel package that is only family and Christian shows. It didn't cost any extra. That way, they don't have to worry about what's shown on their TV. They knew how to parent. If they didn't want their kids exposed to some things, they made sure it wasn't available to them...at least in their household.

But they are the exception. Nobody does that anymore. They'd rather complain about stuff that they just get a glimpse of. Usually, they're just flipping around on the TV or whatever and just happen across something they've never seen before. "Oh my goodness, he said 'boob'!! I'm offended! That show needs to be taken off the air because I don't like it." You can't control the world...no matter how hard you try. People are going to be exposed to things that they don't like. And on the flipside of my argument, I don't agree with the matters where people can't pray in certain places or things like that. I'm not trying to just argue one side...I'm just giving my profane point of view.

And here's another one of my valid but probably profane points. I do go to church. I am a Christian. But I don't feel that God is up there in Heaven marking down in his "book" everytime I say a word like cr*p or d*mn . It's a collection of letters...it has nothing to do with salvation or the amount of faith or spirituality a person has. That's what the Pharisees were all about - "if you do this and that, then God will punish you." It doesn't work that way...at least according to my New Testament. He wants Christians to spread the Gospel...not shove it down people's throats. That's what fundamentalists and extremists do. And, as a side point, people who were religious fundamentalists and extremists are the ones who flew two planes into the World Trade Centers. Fundamentalists and extremists are the ones who are beheading people in their country because of where they came from...because, according to them, they are infidels. And that's what happens in this country - a figurative beheading of the people who don't agree with the "religious right." Religious fundamentalists are the ones who kill in the name of religion. It's the same type of people that protest outside the funerals of American heroes who have given their life for this country, chanting, "God hates you. You deserve to die, f*g!"

And have you noticed...the people who act "easily offended" or are fighting "perverseness" and "obscenities" are the same people who are getting in trouble for what they speak against?? I don't need to list the high profile cases where this happened just in the last month alone...let alone in the past few decades. But here's a small reminder - look at Mark Foley. Look at Ted Haggert. Look at Jim Baker. Look at Jimmy Swaggart. I could go on.

It just seems like it takes a lot less effort to push the button on the remote to change the channel. Or click the mouse on a different site. Rather, people will see something that "offends" them...but then they will continue to watch, or continue to listen, or continue to read to see how much MORE they can be offended!!

But that's just my opinion. Live and let live. I don't tell people what to say, what to write, or what to watch. If I don't like it, I just don't join in. And I appreciate the same courtesy from most of the general public. But these type of people aren't like that. YOU listen to THEM. Your arguments are not valid. Only their arguments are valid.

Am I wrong??

Maybe I am. In which case, I'll be censored or blocked or whatever they do on this site since some of my blogs aren't for kids. They're for mature adults who know how to click off my stuff when they don't like it. I'll be glad to leave if I'm one of the ones targeted by the complaints. Maybe I am more suited for Xomba. The wind has been taken out of my sails here. At least at Xomba, I can write about going to a bar without being scolded for promoting alc*h*l - as it states in the TOS. If I talk about my wife having a cigarette, is that promoting t*b*cco?? Because apparently an argument could be made that a blog discussing sm*king could be contrary to the rules and TOS. Maybe I get offended by people who write about Th*nksg*v*ng because I have some Native American in me and the P*lgr*ms came over and eventually the Native Americans were killed because of their arrival in America. Anybody can pick something to be offended by. Does this mean we can't write anything that contains the words "Santa Claus" in it? This is a free site. I guess it's not a free country anymore because the fanatics are taking over. The rule of the few over the many. That's how dictatorships start. Ask Hitler.

Sorry...but nothing bothers me more than people who think they are holier than thou and feel the need to shove their beliefs down your throat. Whoops...was that p*rn*gr*ph*c?? It could be construed that way I suppose.

So..sorry if I offended anybody. That's why I put a disclaimer on a few of my writings. But that probably just intrigued the easily offended because sometimes I think they get their kicks from being offended and having something to complain about. Maybe their efforts should be concentrated on the internet p*rn*gr*phy sites where kids can make a simple click and see pretty much anything they want to..and some things that disturb even a grown man like myself. I'm sorry, but I don't feel that making double entendres and insinuations (which most of my writings and comments were) that kids don't understand should be a point of contention. It's not gonna happen again. I'll take my blogs elsewhere.

In closing, I would like to make this point. I do agree with the person who started this. There were a couple things I didn't wanna read. But here's what I did...as soon as I got a hint that I didn't wanna read it, I STOPPED READING!!!! I know...radical, huh?? And then if that person posted another blog, I would either NOT read it, or I would be extra discerning when I clicked on it.

But fine..whatever. You won. I'm not gonna argue about it. Good luck in living the rest of your life fighting your little demons called words that pervert your mind. Maybe if your kind gets powerful enough, we can just ship the remaining members of the Taliban over to America and let them continue their ways here.

P.S. I'm still trying to find the "family-friendly" qualification on the site.

bdwick, I'm shocked, I'm incensed, I'm totally outraged!

Really cool, cause that's exactly what I was hoping for when I logged on. Life was getting a little boring around my house today.

I agree with you 100%. I left a reply to your comment on Sassys blog where you mentioned the issues going on at BlogEvolve and won't repeat myself here.

The people who take offense do seem to be actively looking for offense. Instead of ignoring something that offends them they actually call attention to it. This has the effect of encouraging children to check out the offensive material themselves. After all, if stuffy old mom and dad think it's bad, it must be loads of fun.

This is not rocket science, it's pretty routine human behavior - not just the behavior of children. Anyone ever had a 2 year old that repeated cuss words? The age-old advice for this problem is just to ignore them - when they see they are not getting any attention from those words, they usually move on to something else.

This leads me to believe that these people are more offended by the very act of individualism - the defiance of someone who chooses to live by their own standards - than by the actual words or behavior. And this, more than anything in the world today, scares the living hell out of me. Your comparison to the fundamentalist Christians who want to control everything we say and do to the extremists who are blowing up crowds of civilians and beheading infidels is, I think, very appropriate.

I, for one, intend to just ignore them and go about my business - living my life the way I see fit and writing what I see fit. I intend to encourage and support other people who do the same. If enough of us do the same, maybe these others will get tired of being ignored and learn a new song and dance. Anything would be a welcome change.

Very true

After I cool off, I might blog on the site again. But she just gets me so freakin' agitated that I can't concentrate on anything but arguing with her. And I don't wanna stoop to her level.
