This last weekend, my husband really surprised me. In an effort to get us all under one roof again, he decided that we needed to have our house in a condition to sell. So, he began doing all the projects we've been putting off.
In the span of three days, we did some drywall mud in two bedrooms (more about this in a minute), started removing a popcorn ceiling from the living room, mostly finished painting the upper kitchen cabinets, installed pavers for our landscaping, and stripped the stain from some trim. All of this in addition to taking walks with the kids, going to Boy Scout information meetings, playing Monopoly and Battleship, and the normal chores he does like washing dishes, cooking, and mowing.
This weekend will be even more jam-packed. Last weekend was a lot of prep-work so that the real work could begin. We will finish painting the cabinets, remove a truly hideous brick facing from the kitchen backsplash, sand the drywall mud, paint those two rooms, paint a stencilled wallpaper in my daughter's room, install crown moulding on the tops of the cabinets, raise a light in the kitchen, remove some concrete blocks so we can finish with the pavers, and possibly move the thermostat to a different wall so we can rearrange the furniture. We will also continue on the popcorn ceiling, continue with stripping woodwork, and check on the feasibility of building a walk-in pantry in the kitchen.
Tired yet? Me too. The walk-in pantry is a huge project, but I have high hopes for it. Our kitchen, like most turn of the century farmhouses, has an enormous kitchen, but very little useable space. There are so many doors coming off of it, and one of the worst ones is the basement door. I actually woke up the other morning with the idea that the door should not be moved, but located within the pantry. If I'm a very lucky girl, this will provide enough room for a dishwasher. Somehow, I have become so accustomed to doing major projects that when I told my husband that we were simply going to frame up part of our bar, put up a couple of walls and shelves, and move the return air for the AC, he didn't flinch. lol
I swear, one of these days, I am going to tell him that we need to mudjack the house, and he'll reply that he'll get to it after lunch.
