I'm interested in doing a 'project' about How Dancing Affects Mental Health, and I will use myself as an example. I was on prozac for like 10 years---mainly because my mom was afraid I would relapse. I know I don't owe my successes to a drug, and dance had a lot to do with my recovery.
I am also VERY interested in dream research. Just because dreams aren't taken seriously (and I am not talking about freudian analysis here), does not mean that they are not a serious matter! I've always been a vivid dreamer, I remember ALL of my dreams, and I can still remember nightmares I had YEARS ago. I also have lucid dreams, dreams that I am aware I am having while I am having them, which means I can control them. Dreaming is a necessary part of sleep. Dreams matter!
And ofcourse, I am interested in phobias. Not getting over mine, but learning about and helping other people cope with theirs in new ways. And about what happens to the phobia sufferer when the phobia is "cured". And Phobias as coping mechanisms, and 'secondary gain', which means the underlying benefits of having a phobia.
Lastly, I want to be like Elizabeth Kubler Ross and do research on death. I've had many strange accidents in my life and near death experiences too, and so they fascinate me. I am not afraid of dying, I just want to get all my shit together before my time is up!
