My Dual Life
This has been a really good 7 days for me work-wise. Surprisingly enough there is a burgeouning and very good, albeit small, fashion scene in Portland. I did a fashion show last week to benefit Basic Rights Oregon and got to work with three amazing local designers....Jonny Shultz, Magali Corzo, and Sofada. Their clothes were to die for.
Today I got to shoot in a magical peacock blue gown made entirely of paper....yes paper! And I was made up to look like a mermaid/butterfly hybrid. A girlhood fantasy of mine come true.
So I have gotten really lucky this past week and been able to get all dolled up, hair and make-up done by professionals, gotten my ego stroked.....and then in 2.5 seconds flat I am back to my other reality. Motherhood.
Earlier this evening I was sitting on the floor with my son and he gets up and sits on my lap then says "pee pee mama" and pees all over my leg. When I get up to change I realize that there is a slash of yogurt across my shoulder, and lord knows how my son managed to fling that on me without my noticing......my life is truly a dichotomy of occasional glamour and constant crusty food, poop and pee. But I love it and wouldn't have it any other way.
Because at the end of the day when my son looks up at me with his huge blue eyes says "Hi mama!" and kisses me with both chubby hands on my face.....there is no modeling day rate that can compare with that. I love modeling. I am not going to lie in order to sound less shallow, etc.....it is fun and has afforded me a lot of wonderful moments.....but none are so priceless as being a mother. Pee soaked jeans and all!
