Mood Monitoring Media Player

Technology, in the realm of entertainment media, tends to vary in the range of usefulness. While some of it is convenient, others seem only to be trendy, and even "cute" (like the iPod, for instance, and no, I don't have one).

Here's another example. Walt Disney is proving to be "innovative" (I use that term loosely) not only in the realm of entertainment, but also in the field of technology. Disney has recently devised a media player that chooses songs based on the mood of its owner. This gadget has wrist sensors that measure the user's pulse rate, body temperature and perspiration. It uses these measurements to determine what music the owner will play during various circumstances. It uses this information to build a profile, and it then comes up with suggestions, which the listener can either accept or reject. If the selection is rejected, the media player will refine its profile until it sychronizes the user's moods and the songs he/she wants to hear at the time.

While this is definitely clever, it also seems like a little much. I tend to believe I can choose my own music without the help of a machine. Besides, should I purchase one of these devices, I'll probably be hearing “Suffer Well and "A Pain That I'm Used To" until the end of the work day.
