SORRY, I have decided to remove this post for the time being. I will repost it at a later date after I seek a lawyer's advice. I would like to thank those who have contributed to my decision!

Delete this blog and see a lawyer. I'm serious.

O'Kelly is right. Twice maybe?

Yeah, I was thinking about that

I was considering that but it was all ready on the news. The problem with a lawyer is that I will have to pay for it. What should I do? Will a lawyer handle this for free? I doubt it.

What kind of Lawyer?

Charges you a retainer and bills you by the hour. Best bet is to start off by talking to a friend or relative who is an attorney and will give you an outline of your position for free. Then you'll have a better idea of what sort of representation you'll require, if any.

Thanks, I will do that.

To pay an attorney a retainer so that if your name suddenly comes up as involved due to employee records or the like you can forward all contact there. If nothing comes of it, you're only out the retainer. Most likely though, unless you go to the DA who filed suit (this was a criminal matter, yes?) saying you heard about the case and saw such and such while working there, you will only get contact if they are doing a very thorough investigation of past employees.

Mav - About the Lawyer

Ok, this is what I know thus far; the people who are suing are the authors. I don't know if it's criminal, I think it would be, right? Why do I need a lawyer though? Can't I just contribute my info to the authors lawyer?

If

It's the authors suing it's civil. And, would be best to have an attorney advise you if you're thinking of involving yourself. It's never as simple as you think.

Thanks

I see what you mean. Should I just use the lawyer they are using? Or do I need to find somebody not all ready involved with the issue? This is so hard. AAAHHHH!

Their lawyer could plan on being pulled before an ethics board if he'd even take you. Seriously conflict of interest is what he'd have.

Basically the blog was about my ex employer who made the news for a huge scandal. I happen to know some info that could break the case wide open but I am unsure if I should come forward for several reasons - 1. Money for a lawyer, 2. Risk, 3. I just don't want to be on the news and get caught up in a bunch a media hype. BUT I know the right thing (morally) would be to share my info.

It's tough. The readers suggested I pull the blog for now due to any legal stuff. I really don't think I'd get in trouble because all names were changed but still. I will definately repost it as soon as I talk to a lawyer.

Mav's got it right about the lawyer bit

Even a blind pig .... :)

But I think if you network a bit as Mav has suggested, you'll be able to find your way to one who is versed in this kind of law. The case could be either criminal or civil, depending on the evidence. And job no. 1 is to protect yourself.
