Money Changes Everything
Hi.
You know, I don't post the highest quality content in the world- especially not here, but when I looked over the recent entries, I saw some real junk! I don't intend to offend- and I am going somewhere with this, so please bear with me a moment here.
It's funny that I should feel that I'm not posting something that is 'up to par' when I just drop a quick link and a picture, but it seems that some people here aren't even trying! Please, folks, for the sake of everyone's sanity- check your spelling, and use caps where they are needed!
But, I digress, as there are some fine posts to be found here as well, and I'm posting this to rant about a larger issue... ok, well, it's the same issue, only it is occuring far beyond the reaches of this domain, and that is where the problem lies.
For example:
Mylot.com pays people to start and be involved in 'conversations'. Sounds great, right? If only it were the utopia I had imagined. Unfortunately, the site is Horrifically slow, and ripe with the some of the worst grammar I've seen in ages! I Literally had to go no further than the front page to find this atrocity:
i slept with my Sister last month and she got pragnant wat will i do pls email this discussion to a friend?
help me ok it very bad
Yeah. It very bad. It very bad indeed.
A lesser offender is heliumknowledge.com . Once again, they pay you to 'write', only the idea is to write 'answers' to 'questions' . (They've recently changed the terminology to 'topics' and 'articles' because the old terminology was problematic)
Now, this site isn't nearly as bad, probably because there is an incentive to give the 'best' answer, yet there are still some really bad 'topics' and 'articles'.
Another problem on this site, isn't bad spelling or grammar, but Unnecessarily long winded articles- you see when people rate the articles, the longer ones tend to get better ratings, so you end up with really long articles that don't go anywhere. But that's another issue, best left to an article of it's own.
Maybe the problem isn't the money at all, but the lack of editing. There are a handful of sites that pay people to write quality articles, but they have editors and standards. On those sites, articles that are filled with bad grammar or don't contain something provacative or informative are rejected. Of course, if sites like this one and the ones that I mentioned here were to hire a bunch of editors, they wouldn't be able to pay their 'writers'... sort of a catch 22.
