Mommy & the Capitalist Pig
Prepare yourself for the coming rants. Soon, as Mothers Day approaches, there will be many who proclaim that this is but another opportunity for big bad business to make as much money as possible. Like Valentines Day, Fathers Day, and such.
Capitalize on the poor innocent and ignorant people who want to demonstrate affection for their mothers. Flowers, cards, chocolates, dildos, or whatever else may say to mom "I love you and I thank you".
"It's just a fabrication created by business" goes the mantra. Anybody who participates in this demonized day that purports to celebrate mommy and all that that entails is but a blind and ignorant imbecile. This is the implication.
Well, I retort, what about the age-old economics tenet of supply and demand? Maybe people just want to celebrate their mothers, because they love her. Maybe all the candy and cards and flowers are how they choose to do so.
Is that not ok, you anti-mother Nazis?

All the ranting about commercialized holidays irritates me. So what! It's fun. Must everyone being such a grump nowadays? Okay.. so I may be guilty of it, as well.

Well, it is such a capitalist holiday. It has become less about celebrating mom than seeing what you can buy her. My perfect Mother's Day wouldn't have too much to do with commercialism. I would be very, very happy if my family cooked for me and brought me breakfast in bed. When I awoke, about 1 PM, I would find the house perfectly cleaned and my husband would rush to draw me a bath, complete with bath bombs. I would then spend the rest of the day watching my favorite classic movies with my family, and after the kids went to bed, my husband would give me a massage.
But perfection hasn't happened yet. So I will somehow manage to console myself with flowers, candy, and if I'm lucky, jewelry. It almost hurts to be so selfless. ;D
Gifts that require effort
Gifts that require effort like cleaning and cooking? As if. In my dreams. I'll settle for chocolates and flowers, at least it's something!
Why not Gifts & Effort...
What the hell. Go for it. Mommies are worth it, yes?
