Mob Mentality Will Wreck Pro-Immigrant Marches

Masses of people demonstrating against the current Senate bill designed to crack down on illegal aliens are using tactics that will only blow up their cause and trigger serious sociological complications within diverse populations in this country.

I have lived and worked in areas that are primarily Hispanic majorities, and I can tell you flatly that the legitimate Hispanic establishment – which has become a wealthy player in West Coast politics and economics over the past quarter-century – is quietly enraged over thousands of street punks who call themselves students invading the streets of Los Angeles.

Organizers of these protests are just now becoming aware that they might have started something they cannot stop, and that it could flame up into a brutal social conflict between Hispanic populations and the rest of the general public in California and elsewhere.

There is almost no other social group of people in history that has meshed to thoroughly and successfully into the culture of California as have the Latino populations. It is a tragedy that the multitude of accomplished Hispanic families and towns and urban areas will have to suffer the stigma should these mass gatherings become full-blown riots as has been threatened by the more militant factions.

Time to take a deep breath. A major nationwide demonstration is scheduled for April 10. We all need to pull together and not pull apart the multicultural threads that hold our country together.
