Mirror Mirror On the Wall …

As I shaved this morning I saw the reflection of a man I no longer know. I saw a man that has grown old and weak. I saw the shell of a man once proud and strong. A beaten old man willing to “go along to get along”. And I thought to myself; mirror mirror on the wall…
I watched in utter amazement as President Bush pretended to chastise the people of China for human rights abuse. Does the President of the United States ever look in the mirror? Does he daily practice his chant: mirror mirror on the wall…
When and if he does look in the mirror does the Vice President really answer him: you are Mr. President, you are …
When was the last time that we as a nation looked into that magical mirror? What did we see? Was the reflection of a proud nation following the guiding light of our forefathers?
OR, was the refection corrupt? Did we see the great leaders of this nation mislead the public and the world? Did we see the great leaders of this nation, time and time again, fall short of the moral ethics we as a nation expect of our leaders; mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most corrupt of them all? You are Mr. President, you are.
I now recall that not so long ago we as a nation did look into the mirror and decided to change the image reflected in that mirror of reality. The citizens spoke with a thunderous roar and handed the mirror to Ms. Pelosi. Once elected Ms. Pelosi looked into the mirror and asked; mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most powerful and corrupt of them all? And the mirror spoke thus: President Bush is the most powerful and corrupt!
So Ms. Pelosi and all those that would follow her decided to change the reflection. But the reflection refused to change. Once more the citizens looked into the mirror and what they saw they decided to accept.
They saw a nation that is tired and worn thin from corruption. A nation that is no longer willing to accept the role of world moral leadership. A nation that is old and weak because its leaders are old and weak. A nation that is unwilling to put forth the effort it takes to create and grow a free and moral nation.
As the nation looked into the mirror, it asked: mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most powerful and corrupt of them all? And the mirror answered: You are Mr. Citizen, you are.

Excellent PanchoVilla...very very well said!

The only way this country can successfully move forward is "OUT WITH THE OLD"...and by that I DO mean old. I think there should be an age limit on the Presidency in this country...I know one has to be old ENOUGH to qualify...so shouldn't one be TOO old to qualify too? McCain is 72 years old and they are saying "Well let's just give him a 4 year term" That is insane thinking.
We are so lazy, PV.
We don't want to be bothered - we don't want to tear ourselves away from the TV or the football game or whatever in order to spend the time communicating with our elected officials or just to find out what exactly is going on. The only time most of the country really knows what's going on is after something has gone dreadfully wrong and then they start screaming. Well, the time to start screaming is before those things start.
And I have to agree with Sassys, there is such a thing as too old for the Presidency. Sure, most people 70 and older still retain a sharp mind and can put to use all those years of experience. But they do not retain a body that can stand up to the rigors of the Presidency. And the Presidency is a hard, hard job. It ages the people who serve far beyond what would be expected from just a normal 4 years of work. And when your body is overtaxed to that extent your brain does not work to its full capacity.
Ha! Like McCain's brain at full capacity is anything to brag about. The guy's just a washed up pilot with a Napoleonic complex.
Mr. Citizen on a ranting rage
Yes, we need a huge change in leadership although I am not sure either one of the present candidates is willing to bring about that change. I have come to see the United States as a one party system. The candidates speak different words but after all is said and done the meaning is the same.
There appears to be a group of elite wealthy that live in the shadows, never showing their faces, while making the decisions that affect our daily lives. On the one hand I cannot believe that the republican grass roots movement would pick someone like McCain to represent them. On the other hand I fail to see how a first term Senator single handedly built a nationwide grass roots organization in such short time.
I also believe that the powers that be are toying with us and using the presidential election to deflect attention from the real issue. Real change can only be had by getting rid of all the incumbents in congress. Real change can only be had by rendering what the lobbyists have purchased useless.
I am an accountant, it is my job to effect change as a means of protecting large companies from internal losses. Chain stores move store managers from location to location quite often. This minimizes the possibility of any two employees working in concert to defraud the company. The same should be true for our congress. Term limits limit the usefulness of any favors purchased by lobbyists from our congressmen.
The job of representing the people was not ever supposed to be a “career”. Once a person serves six to ten years in congress they become self-righteous and begin to think they own the district they are supposed to represent.
Term limits is not something that has to be passed into a law. It is something that is in the hands of the people. We as voters have the power to limit terms.
Enough said. I gotta go and look in the mirror again.
Rave on, PV. Your ranting makes a whole lotta sense.
And you are right. We need a clean sweep in congress and in every state. And we need that on a frequent basis.
As for your fears about this election being used to deflect our attention and that shadowy, wealthy elite, man, you and I are on the same page, same paragraph, same line. We have got to keep our eyes open because something in me says that we are being led down the garden path - and it's not a pretty garden, either.
Too Many of the Old and Tired
Too Many of the Old and Tired Politicians are re-elected everytime because people in whatever state don't want to lose their seniority in Congress. They are afraid the state will lose jobs if they don't have some worn out old corrupt politician looking out for their self interest. It isn't about wwhat is good for the country, it is about what is good for me.
