Microsoft's Announcement Regarding Windows Vista

I haven't done a tech blog in a while, and this is a topic will probably be of interest to Windows users. Those of you regular readers, the few that have stuck around, know that I'm not a fan of Microsoft products (for reasons I won't go into now), but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to keep an eye on what Microsoft is doing.
With attempts to crush competition and dominate other electronic markets, they have failed to provide a significant update for Windows XP, which was released in late 2001. It's successor, Windows Vista, was most recently scheduled to be released later this year, in time for the holiday shopping season. Well, if you were expecting to find Microsoft's new operating system under your tree this year, you may be disappointed. It isn't going to happen.
The company announced that consumer release of the Vista operating system will be delayed until January 2007. While most of us aren't going to be devastated by this news (far from it, in fact), those who will feel the effects of this decision will be computer makers, who were depending on the release of the new operating system to boost year-end computer sales. Instead, they will go yet another holiday season with XP.
The company insists that is is making quality a priority in scheduling the release of Vista (I'm not holding my breath). Microsoft is said to be taking extra efforts to improve the new system's security (Windows? Security?).
We'll have to wait and see just what kind of "quality" and "security" Microsoft will have to offer. Until then, I'll enjoy truly secure computing with my Linux laptop and a Mac G4.
