Memorial Day Monotony

Ah, another Memorial Day has come to pass in the Milam household.

It is only 9 a.m. so I suppose I should not say that it has passed but I might as well if it turns out to be as eventful a holiday as Memorial Day usually is around here (LOL). Our grill is not even accessible from the spot where we stowed it away in our storage unit last winter so instead of burgers or steaks it will probably be Hamburger Helper or the Monday Night pizza special.... not that I'm sure exactly what grilling itself has to do with Memorial Day.

It's really sort of sad that Memorial Day is not a bigger deal if you stop to think about what it is even for. This always comes to mind at some point for me during Memorial Day because my grandparents go up to Trenton, Missouri every single year at this time for his family reunion. I say "his" family because they married when I was just a couple of years ago but a marriage does not necessarily make a family (LOL). There has always unfortunately been "my gram's family" and "grampa's family".... It is odd that any of us are related, even just through marriage.... But back to the point. Every year they make the drive up and celebrate the memories of their family and friends who have passed, and even if some of them hate each other (as some people in each family circle inevitably WILL) they still gather as a group in order to continue this family tradition.

For me, it has always felt more about our troops than family, even though I was not raised in a military environment (people just assumed so because we moved ALL the time) and I'm not sure where those sentiments came from. Now, every Sunday when I watch This Week With George Stephanopolis, I watch the In Memoriam section near the end and see all those young, young people who died during the past week and it REALLY feels that way.

Well, I will stop this blog before I depress anyone to the point of ruining their usually enjoyable Memorial Day (LOL).

is always a boring day. I can't remember the last time I went out on this day, so I'll be sitting here at my computer, like I always am, doing what I always do, and just letting another holiday that I know the relevance about pass without participating in any way.

pain for the families that do deal with this day, especially while we are at war. I too watch George Stephonapolous, and he's great. But it saddens me to think how many more "memorials" we will have in the future thanks to this needless war. Don't EVEN get me started! Ack.

I know.... The worst kinds of deaths are just plain NEEDLESS ones... I mean, there are all these young people, with all their futures ahead of them.... and I know that they are proud to be in service and I am proud of them-- but it is just such an irreplaceable loss.

but did you post that picture? If you did, can you resize it and shrink it some?

Sorry I didn't ever post any pic there. :-) I would happily resize it if I could! :-)
