Memorial day

today we mourn our dead
again,
as we did too when I was a child.

whether it's a parade, barbeque, or shopping spree
those who died valantlly
are always gone
does a mother's heart ever
completely heal?

when I was young i dreamed
that maybe someday there would be
no more war.
