Maybe We Need A Mass Hug

Anger | calm | hugging | murder | violence

Over the last week, a couple of incidents have come to light that makes me think that maybe we, as a world, need to come together for a mass hug.

The first is this video that's been circulating the internet showing, supposedly, a Russian business office of some kind, where suddenly this one guy goes berserk and starts attacking everything, people included. It runs a little over 3 minutes, and there was even a second recording from a different angle that helped show some of what was going on from another perspective. The jury is still out as to whether that was real or not, but to date no one has been able to disprove it.

We follow that up with a young man in Japan, around 25 years old, who is quoted as saying he was tired of life, tired of everything, drove a rented truck into a crowd of people on purpose, then got out of the car and started stabbing people. By the time anyone could stop him he'd stabbed at least 18 people; 7 of them were fatal.

It would seem that tensions are high, and with everything that's going on in the world these days, I'm not surprised. In America, we have our own issues that are driving us crazy (let's start and end with gas prices), and I'm sure many of us would like to lash out at someone physically if we thought we could get away with it.

So, maybe a group hug, a way to physically let off some steam as well as show some commiseration with others, might help get the job done. Okay, I haven't quite figured out the logistics yet; there has to be an engineer in the house, right? But who does't feel better after a hug? Maybe we can ask Dr. Phil to do the commencement speech; I'd like that.

Yeah, a mass calm down; that would work.

Great Idea

Great idea Catfish, count me in.

ammorton's picture

ya...if you can figure out how to do this

I'd be in....problem is, while we were all group hugging, one of those people would be strangling someone our luck.

Catfish's picture

Well Ammorton,...

there might be one or two people who'd mess things up, but let's be hoping strangling isn't taking place. Heck, even at a peace rally a fight broke out. No telling what's up with people.

Start with ourselves

Ok Catfish and ammorton, I figured out the way. My alter ego is Hug-h and I'm a hugging expert. We have to practice on ourselves. First you stand with your feet apart about one and a half foot lengths. Then you lean forward to take the impact in case someone sees what you're doing and rushes in to your arms to participate. You raise your arms to the sides and to shoulder level and then stretch them forward bringing them together slowly and allowing them to curve naturally inward as they move. Palms and fingers should be in the spoon form scooping inward. Just before the hands meet they should position themselves so one hand is above and one below (the choice is dictated by your intrinsic nature) so the movement inward may continue. Continue the inward curving movement of the arms and hands until each hand can grasp the opposite shoulder. Take a firm hold and pull strongly with the hands and move the elbows downward against the chest. Then relax the grip somewhat. It may be renewed at intervals if the practitioner feels it is necessary.

If this exercise is carried out as described a smile will appear on the face and a feeling of comfort shall be experienced.

Note: If in fact someone rushes in to the arms to participate in the experience the hands will not be able to grasp the shoulders but this may be compensated for by their grasping the opposing arm to increase the strength of the squeeze. It is of great importance that the strength of the squeeze must be adjusted to the density of the musculo-skeletal structure of the incoming participant or the aim of a smile and sensation of comfort might not be achieved.

I am happy to support your project by giving you the benefit of my experience at no charge.

Wow Xingtiao,...

you've given this a lot of thought; course, we still have to get the word out to the rest of civilization. I don't want to be leaning and have no one around to grab me in that hug.

P.S. re strangling

Strangling is not recommended.

Uuuum sure Catfish, but what about the

people that have issues bathing? I do draw the line somewhere ya know:D

You're so bad, Sassys,...

I wouldn't care how Daisy smelled; I'm considerate like that. LOL But it could just be a cultural thing, you know; after all, if you don't have a lot of water, bathing doesn't crop up as the first thing on your list.

LOL Catfish

On my personal list bathing would be very close to the top...now if it's a kid, they get a pass...but an adult? NO way:(

It reminds me, Sassys,...

of many, many years ago when Shirley Temple was asked about being in a movie with Clark Gable, and how excited she was. She said "he smelled like cigarettes" as a response; that was that. Kids!
