I begin to wonder if it's time when I see, here on Bloggerparty, the seventh iteration of the "Russian wives" post in a week. If ever there was an excuse for Polonium 210 ...
I begin to wonder if it's time when I reach for the "flag" utility here on Bloggerparty to drive off the seventeenth plagiarized post today. And find that the utility is gone. Guess that means plagiarism is ok, if it gets hits.
I begin to wonder if it's time when Flavor Flav and Hoopz leads the hit parade week after week after week, when posts that actually say something vanish without trace.
Hell, I should have been wondering that a long time ago.
I've been here for nearly twelve full months now, indeed from the first day of Bloggerparty. Some nice people have paid me some wonderful comments on my writing in that time. And my cumulative hit count might match what "Flavor Flav and Hoops Don't Last" got yesterday.
I've seen lots of people come and go.
Mostly go.
Sure, the medium is ephemeral. People decide they aren't really that interested in writing after all, or they run out of things to say after a few weeks.
Unless they're into stealing.
And those that do have something to say move on to where they can actually say it to an audience. And maybe make a few pence, instead of hanging on the bogus lure of AdSense.
I have stayed. Because I've been enjoying myself. Because I'm a creature of habit. And because I enjoy challenges. Among them being the challenge of offering something maybe a little different to an audience like this and seeing what happens.
What's happened is that I can no longer flag a plagiarized post. And yelling about it just means the thief gets hits. Which of course is the purpose of the plagiarism in the first place.
And maybe that means it's finally time for me to move on.
