Maybe it's time ...

Art of Friendship | bloggerparty | Influence People | Make Friends | O Ceallaigh's Observations | plagiarism | trash

I begin to wonder if it's time when I see, here on Bloggerparty, the seventh iteration of the "Russian wives" post in a week. If ever there was an excuse for Polonium 210 ...

I begin to wonder if it's time when I reach for the "flag" utility here on Bloggerparty to drive off the seventeenth plagiarized post today. And find that the utility is gone. Guess that means plagiarism is ok, if it gets hits.

I begin to wonder if it's time when Flavor Flav and Hoopz leads the hit parade week after week after week, when posts that actually say something vanish without trace.

Hell, I should have been wondering that a long time ago.

I've been here for nearly twelve full months now, indeed from the first day of Bloggerparty. Some nice people have paid me some wonderful comments on my writing in that time. And my cumulative hit count might match what "Flavor Flav and Hoops Don't Last" got yesterday.

I've seen lots of people come and go.

Mostly go.

Sure, the medium is ephemeral. People decide they aren't really that interested in writing after all, or they run out of things to say after a few weeks.

Unless they're into stealing.

And those that do have something to say move on to where they can actually say it to an audience. And maybe make a few pence, instead of hanging on the bogus lure of AdSense.

I have stayed. Because I've been enjoying myself. Because I'm a creature of habit. And because I enjoy challenges. Among them being the challenge of offering something maybe a little different to an audience like this and seeing what happens.

What's happened is that I can no longer flag a plagiarized post. And yelling about it just means the thief gets hits. Which of course is the purpose of the plagiarism in the first place.

And maybe that means it's finally time for me to move on.

Well, I hope you don't

Well, I hope you don't leave, but I sure as hell can't blame you for wanting to do so.

Without a way to flag posts, Bloggerparty is opening themselves up for the mother of all lawsuits. They are very literally benefitting from plagiarism, because they get half the Adsense hits. Therefore, any lawyer worth their salt should sue the hell out of Bloggerparty.

Let's see if that little factoid catches admin's attention.

o ceallaigh's picture

Sure hope it does, IG

I suspect it's an inattention thing rather than a deliberate move, given the other bugs this "public domain" blogging software has shown. I wonder if maybe BP hasn't met the profit goals of Admin either, and that explains the inattention ...

As for going away, well, I'm just venting. For now ...

Inattention does not

Inattention does not necessarily matter. It leads to an environment where plagiarism runs rampant. If it's inattention, I hope they fix it quickly to prevent it. If it's a programming error, I've been there, and I hope they get it fixed quickly. If it's because the button was getting annoying, what with all the actually having to moderate... well, I hope they find a good lawyer.

Damnit! I mentioned lawyers without getting a sponsored blog out of it. ;)

O'Ceallaigh, If you leave the fold

I will shed a few sulphur-tinged tears for you and there will be gnashing of teeth and wailing from the wilderness that is the House of _Bobs! I echo IG's remarks on "why" you would depart and agree that you have good reason to; however, it would be a loss to MANY who have taken up residence here, as well as those that follow your writings at regular intervals if you do. I am of the conviction that you and other writers like you are THE reason many more visit here. The situation may never improve to the point that the untalented, the larcenous, and the rest of the Flavor Flav chuckle-heads, with all their tiresome and boring rehashings don't squat and leave their fetid turds floating amongst the blogroll, but I have always been able to step over those and go right to the writers here that have something to say, be it informative, edge of the knife commentaries or humorous little ditties on life in general...I will continue to do so, and if you do vacate, well, I have your home blog address tattooed on Raj II's backside for easy referral.

With a Restrained Evilish Adieu,

Evil_Bob

Well, there ya go ...

I hear from two of the "nice people" (don't stain your kimono, EB). And, with the comments and my replies, this post has the same number of hits as the plagiarized "anti-Santa" post of earlier today.

Guess that makes my point.

Though I suppose I should be grateful for small favors. This post outscores the one about Britney Spears's crotch shots (possibly also plagiarized). So far ...

russian brides...

that's a blogitive paid ad offered to all blogitive approved blogs so people write about it, tho' rather differently, because of the moolah!

o ceallaigh's picture

I capisce the blogitive, bugsey

My modest proposal is that the fee paid for such posts should be the same across the whole blogosphere.

Thirty pieces of silver ...

bugsey's picture

oops... that pricked my conscience!

you do touch on a rather valid point...

o ceallaigh's picture

Sorry to be so pointed, bugsey ...

... but if that makes pay-per-posters think about what they're selling (in this case something, like the "russian wives" thing, that borders on, if it is not in fact, "white slavery"), the purpose will have been achieved.

bugsey's picture

frankly, i wasn't thinking

which was rather insensitive and wrong wrong wrong of me!!!! and yes you are right, it's practically a mail order bride thingy which i should have considered AT LEAST!!! ((BANGS HEAD)) -- read this thingy-
