Mama is sick

Just got her home from the hospital and thought all was well. We knew it would take awhile for her to get her strength back, but her breathing really concerned us. She was panting and of course it was very shallow breathing. I went and bought a warm mist humidifier thinking the air may be to dry in her apt. I got it all set up Friday night, got her some groceries and came home. I went to see her the next day and she still was panting but said she thought the humidifier was really helping.

After a couple of days her breathing was still worriesome to us. I suggested we take her to the hospital in Enid where her Dr is, but she refused to go.

The next day my sister called to check on her and she didn't answer her phone. My sister called my brother, who lives in the same town, and had him go over to mama's house to check on her. He found her sound asleep in bed and called my sister to tell her all was well although her breathing was still a pant. My sister in turn called the Dr mama had seen while she was in the hospital and set up an appt. She then called me to have me go pick mama up and make sure she got to the Dr on time. After giving me my instructions she called my mom and told her what she was going to do, and she needed to get up and get dressed.

My mom then called me, livid with the fact that I was taking her to the Dr without asking first. I am really not sure how I got the brunt of all this as I was just doing what I was asked to do. I told mama this and she said she WAS NOT going to the DR and that my sister should not have done that.

After the refusal, which she had also shared with my sister, my dear sister called me and wanted to know why I was still home and why I wasn't there picking up our mother. My sister who usually does not use bad language was actually cussing me out. Again I wondered how this had come down on me. I finally had to hang up on her as she went on and on and I was getting angry at her and thought best to end the conversation before I said something I would be sorry for.

Of course during this time, my sister had no idea that I had contacted mama's regular Dr and set up an appt for the next day. I had called her on her cell phone at work and left the message explaining that mama had refused to go to the Dr appt she had set up and there was no way I could force her to get dressed and I wasn't going to drag her out of house.

After my sister got off work, she noticed the message I had left her. She called and apologized over and over. But she did look to see what time I left the message and sure enough there it was. I had left the message almost 30 minutes before she called and cussed me out. So in her mind, I was doing nothing to help mama. To her, mama was suffering and couldn't breathe and needed help. I understood what she was thinking, and I knew that when she calmed down she would call me back and apologize.

Funny thing happened after all this. When My sister was determined to get mama to the Dr for her breathing and all this commotion was going on. I noticed mama was not panting at all. Her breathing was fine. She was breathing normally. HUM, what is up with that? I brought this to my sisters attention after she had apologized and so she called mama to apologize to her also and sure enough mama was breathing just fine.

Was she just making it up? Pretending not to be able to breathe? Going from panting for 3 or 4 days, ( at least when one of us kids were around, or she was talking to us on the phone) to breathing normally in about 5 minutes time?

I don't feel good about this at all. What is she trying to do? Now no doubt she was sick, she had been in the hospital. But to scare us like that by pretending not to be able to breathe, that is just not right. I don't know what she is up to but I don't like it one bit.

Tomorrow we go to see her Dr and I will be going in the examination room with her. I want to know exactly what he says to her and she to him.
