I'm not sure how many people here are aware that Mackay in sunny Queensland was flooded on Feb 15. I was one of the lucky ones that survived without having any water in my house. Others, not so lucky & have been told it can take up to 12 months before they can live in their homes again. We had 650mls of rain in 6 hours overnight so we all woke up to it. I woke up to find my backyard was part of the river which is about 5 - 10 kms (2 - 5 miles) away from my house. It was amazing to see how far the water came - it didn't help that it was high tide as well but as soon as the tide turned, it was amazing to see how fast the water receded. here are some photos of my backyard & street as the water was receding - I couldn't get out before that as it was raining way too hard.
