Low milk supply and breastfeeding

Low breast milk supply is not producing enough breast milk for your baby to gain weight from breastmilk alone. For some breastfeeding mothers with low milk supply, they may realize right off that they are not making enough breastmilk. In my case, my milk came in great a few days after delivery. For the next several days, my breastmilk supply was fine. But about a week after birth, I knew I was not producing enough breastmilk. A little would come out, but not enough to satisfy my son's needs. So I immediately started pumping and supplementing with formula.

I spoke to my son's pediatrician, and I was told right off that I would never produce enough breast milk and I would always have low milk supply. Boy, he knew how to keep the words of encouragement flowing.

I would breastfeed as much as possible, but when my milk went out of course my son was not happy and would not continue to breastfeed. Totally understandable. So I kept on supplementing with formula. And pumping. I have always used a hospital-grade breastpump. It really does make a difference.

My breast milk supply is always best in the mornings. I don't know if every breastfeeding mother experiences the same thing, but mine is always higher at that time. By afternoon, my milk supply was low. I would pump about an ounce combined from both breasts.

Increasing or decreasing breastmilk supply takes a few days. It doesn't happen immediately. It makes sense. It takes our bodies awhile to make changes.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have immediately started on a galactagogue like Breastea. I think a lot of modern people under estimate the powers of herbs. I don't because I have seen firsthand how much Breastea has helped my breastmilk supply. With Breastea, I know my I will make enough breast milk until my son is weaned.

A herbal galactagogue can help in several situations. It helps when a mother has to work and has to pump when she is away from baby. It helps when a mom truly does have low milk supply. It helps mothers that have adopted and are trying to produce breastmilk. Herbal galactagogues truly help low milk supply.

It's really important to keep a good breastfeeding or pumping schedule when you are using an herbal galactagogue. If you are not pumping or breast feeding enough, you aren't telling your body that you need breast milk. That's a big cause of some breastfeeding mothers low breast milk supply. For other moms with low milk supply, no matter what they do they still experience the low milk supply.

Breastfeeding is a lot of trial and error, but it is so worth it. Hang in there!
