If our heart is made to have those convictions, why do we still have homelessness? It is because people of different circumstances feel it is not up to them to help these souls. It is not their problem or that is an issue for the local municipalities to deal with not them.
I grew up in a small west Texas town, it since has grown and continues to everyday. I still have a childhood friend there and we are very close. A couple of years ago, she decided that she wanted to make a difference if she could to the homeless there. She went homeless,,,she lived on the streets just like the homeless do. She walked the streets, she begged for money and food, and anything else that she needed. At the same time a local church and my friend started a sponsership of sorts. Basically everyday she stayed homeless she would receive more money for the cause. After her 14 days of homelessness, she and her church raised enough money to buy insulated cover alls. Oh did I forget to mention she did this in the winter?? She wanted the elements as well...
I know your thinking well thats good and great, and nice or whatever...She is not by any means rich and growing up she knew the poorness in her home their was 8 of them in one house, and that is just her brothers and sisters. There was never enough food on the table, or clean towels in the morning before school... To this day she has at least 200 towels her her home and not alot of food but it is more then she had growing up as a child. Just think for a second what skeltons came up in her closet when she went homeless,,, how it hit real close to home... That didn't stop her. The cold and bitter wind didn't stop her. The hunger she felt in her stomach didn't stop her..
For me to be able to call her my friend is so unbeleivable. She had helped in the only way she could, and the only way she wanted to. It dosen't stop there my friend, I too have had to deal with the problem of homelessness. Thank God it wasn't me personally, but it was my older brother Mark...
to be continued...
