It's very important, especially for the first few weeks, to change your daily routine. It helps your system think of other things besides smoking and will help reduce your psychological stress during this time. At least it did for me. For example, instead of getting out of bed and going directly for that "wake up" cigarrette, hit the shower right away. Then finish getting yourself ready. You'll be surprised at how much better you feel in the morning. And you'll quickly discover how much faster you're ready to head out that door. If you're used to having a cigarrette right after you eat--go for a walk or read a magazine instead.
I highly recommend that you start some sort of exercise when you quit. Now I don't mean you have to go buy a fitness membership and kill yourself on the machines. But your metabolism is going to change, and if you want to avoid that smoke-free bulge (my term), it really helps to start walking and try to eat smaller meals more often during the day.
Tomorrow I'll fill you in on some of the health benefits I saw in myself after quitting.
