Aintree, here in the city of Liverpool, is the home of the world’s greatest steeplechase, the Grand National, and this weekend is Grand National Weekend

Today is Ladies’ Day, so guess where I’ve been?

These lovely ladies agreed to have their pictures published on the condition they were on the ‘font page’ – so there you are girls – fame at last!

Here’s the main entrance to the Aintree Race Course with punters arriving in their droves ready for a little flutter on the gee-gees - they've certainly got a nice day for it - the sun is out and so are the belles!

Steeple chasing has always been a big part of Liverpool’s heritage, the first taking place in 1837, when ‘The Great Liverpool Steeplechase’ took place at Maghull, some three miles from the present site of Aintree racecourse. The first ever winner was The Duke

The Great Liverpool Steeplechase moved home to Aintree in 1839, and Captain Martin Becher christened the now famous brook as he was forced to crawl from it after a fall

The greatest steeplechaser of all time was Southport trained Red Rum, who won the Grand National three times, came second twice, as well as winning the Scottish Grand National

The Grand National continues to be an ever popular event, and draws thousands of visitors from both home and abroad, and the race is also televised around the world

More on the Grand National coming soon – watch this space!

So there’s another in a series of articles I am planning to share with you in reference to the 2008 European Capital of Culture, the city of Liverpool here in the United Kingdom

The plan is, I’m going to research places of interest around the city, then get out and about and visit these places, take some photographs, and then post an article about each place

I’m hoping this will be a useful travel guide for visitors to the city, without giving too much away because I don’t want to spoil any surprises for you!

Can’t wait to see you la!

I can work with that!

I like the babe on the right. She's got on a brown blouse and a white scarf. Can you set me up?

Lol moorishprince!

Sorry buddy - can't help you there - you're right though - she is a rather lovely creature isn't she, I say what?

There were thousands of them down there today, and all keen to have a picture taken!

I would have taken a few more but I just popped over there today in between other jobs so didn't have much time to spare - though I'm definitely taking the day off for next year's Ladies' Day!
