Here’s the second in a series of short articles I am planning to share with you in reference to the 2008 European Capital of Culture, the city of Liverpool here in the United Kingdom
The plan is, I’m going to research places of interest around the city, then get out and about and visit these places, take some photographs, and then post an article about each place right here on Bloggerparty
I’m hoping this will be a useful travel guide for visitors to the city, without giving too much away because I don’t want to spoil any surprises…..
It was on March 15th 2002, that Yoko Ono visited the city to unveil the John Lennon bronze at Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The seven foot statue was sculpted by well known Merseyside artist and sculptor, Tom Murphy of Wirral
Amongst Tom’s other works are the Bill Shankley statue located at Liverpool Football Club’s ground in Anfield (feature on this coming soon), Lady Diana’ s statue, located in Colwyn Bay North Wales, and Dixie Dean’s statue, located at Everton Football Club’s ground (feature on this coming soon)
Miniature versions of the statue are available to purchase from various stores around the city. If you’re struggling to find a shop selling these, a good bet is to try The Beatles Shop in Matthew Street in the city centre (feature on this coming soon)
Anyway, this statue is a must see for any Beatles fan and you will find the seven foot version inside the terminal building of Liverpool John Lennon Airport
Follow the stairs for ‘Departures’ and the statue is to your right, so have your camera ready!
The great news is, this is just one of many free attractions located in and around Liverpool which I hope to inform you of in this blog
