This year Baby Boomers begin to turn 60. Within five years 1/2 of the American population will be 60 or over. It's time this generation realized....we ain't no babies no more!
Here are some ways to live healthier and longer.
1. Get off of your butt and exercise. Take a walk. Take the batteries out of your remote so you have to get up. Park as far from the store as is safe and walk the distance. Ask a friend to walk with you in the morning or late afternoon.
Most heart problems occur when fat builds up in the walls of your arteries. This plaque lines your arteries like the goo in an engine hose. Exercise helps to reduce this gunk and clear the arteries. If it isn't cleared out, the plaque breaks off and travels through the bloodstream to the heart. It blocks the flow of blood into the heart and a heart attack occurs. Even moderate excercise will help.
2. Take control of your diet.
As you age you need fewer calories to maintain your weight. Throw out the salty, sugary snack foods and replace them with fruits and veggies. Instead of ice cream, make a smoothie out of frozen bananas, frozen blueberries, skim milk, vanilla and a touch of sugar. Blend until smooth.
Eat veggies which are low in carbs and have no fat. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, summer squash, okra,green beans, greens, and such are loaded with vitamins. Make a dip of low fat yougurt, salt, and a little grated garlic and use it as a dip for the veggies.
Eat more garlic. It has been shown garlic helps to reduce high blood pressure.
Replace mashed potatoes with mashed cauliflower. You'll be pleasantly surprised how good mashed cauliflower is. (You make it like mashed potatoes but you are using cauliflower instead.
3. Develop frienships.
Studies have shown taht people who have friends and belong to some organizations actually live longer and have fewer complaints. If you don't like clubs and organizations then volunteer. You'll feel better.
4. Forgive People
The act of forgiveness helps you more than it helps the person you are forgiving. Don't hold on to old grudges they are unproductive and can only serve to harm you.
Incorporate these few changes and you will meet middle age with more defense. Lifeis good. Enjoy it.
