Killing our Young

I remember when I was small thinking how awful that male cats would sometimes kill young toms when they were born....if someone or the mother didn't protect them. I understand that male bears also will kill cubs.

My uncle raised hogs for a while, and he had a red sow that would wheel around and bite a piglet right after she gave birth to it. Someone had to be there and rescue the poor things when they born. I think it must have been a pain reflex or something like that, because she would take care of the pigs when she was finished birthing. There are many instances in the animal world where the defenseless babies are killed by the elders.

But what about people? Why would adult parents kill their children, as the Arkansas mother did Sunday? How could she and why would she deliberately snuff out their young lives? It is believed that she smothered them, but the reason is unknown. They were found lined up side by side in bed, ages 6, 7 and 8. Now the world will never know who they would have been, or what their contribution to our planet might have been.

Are we no better than the animals? It is hard to make sense of what we see happening in our society, the fruit of a fallen world. And scientists say that we are Evolving...Hah! They need to look around. We are DEvolving.
