Kids and Recess

I can't believe how much the public school systems have changed in the last 20 years.

Recently, I've seen and read that several schools are stopping recess and/or limiting how the kids can play.

I am a firm believer that ALL kids need free play. Anymore, kids are not allowed to be kids. By taking away their recess and forcing them to sit all day long in seats is almost like creating little robots.

Childhood is supposed to be easy. We are all only children once. Kids are meant to be kids, not little grown ups. If they aren't able to express themselves as kids, than what are they going to grow up to be?

Should my son's elementary school decide to do that, I would pull him out and home school him. I am totally against some of the changes that have occured over the years.

In my opinion, the reason why they are cutting out recess is to stop any bullying etc. What they should be doing is paying more attention during the recess and providing some kind of consequence to the children that bully.

The Main Problem...

I see here is that there are some countries are placing too much emphasis on the paper chase. So much so the school which is pursuing for a better academic standing is also partly just as guilty.

The governing bodies are equally guilty...hence as parents we should not be too caught up as well. Try and provide as much avenues of childhood joy as possible. As long as they (children) have done their best and made their effort, we as parents must learn to support them.

Just my 2 cents worth.
