Jesus Hits Prime Time On NBC

NBC recently introduced a new show called "The Book of Daniel" which features Aidan Quinn as the clergyman father of a gay son. The show has gotten enormous publicity that has helped it get at least passable ratings for a new show at this stage of development. A handful of NBC affiliates have refused to air the show. There is a character called Jesus on the show who is apparently important to members of a religious group known as "The Christians". I guess the fact the word "Christ" appears in "Christians" is a dead giveway. Anyway, these affiliates are afraid the use of the Jesus character will offend its more devout viewers and as a result these affiliates are running 26-year old lost episodes of C.H.I.P.S. as a replacement for "The Book of Daniel". I've seen the show and while it didn't blow me away, I see a lot of potential in this Jesus character and could even see him getting a spinoff if he has a good enough agent, or maybe his own talk show. What would his show be called? Some ideas floated by people who wish they were network TV executives include "Jesus and Pals" and "Jesus and Kathie Lee". I can see why Christians are so opposed to this show....this Jesus isn't the judgmental, hateful Jesus they worship but instead a cool guy who doesn't hate gays or poor people and who dispenses some very useful advice. For those who wish to learn about Jesus not from the Bible but instead from a writer of major network television dramas, I highly recommend "The Book of Daniel".
