J.K. Rowling Paper Update (Be Careful What You Wish For)

I posted a blog a little over a month ago about author J.K. Rowling's frustration over her inability to find paper in Edinburgh, something she complained about publicly on her website. I had a hunch this complaint wouldn't go ignored, and my suspicions proved true. There was a huge response from Harry Potter fans wanting book seven as soon as possible. Who says books and reading don't motivate people? ;)

Rowling is now begging her fans to stop sending her paper. Since she made that comment in early April, has been deluged with paper from her fans, some sending single sheets of paper to entire pads to paper merchants sending stacks of notebooks with her name embossed on it. Others sent letters telling her exactly where in Edinburgh she could find paper, and some even included maps. The power of Harry Potter should not be underestimated. Now having enough paper to write multiple copies of the final Harry Potter installment, she admits to having no excuse. You can read her comments on her website, but she only leaves one entry up until she posts the next. So if you missed her entry, here's a similar account.

So this is the fate of the celebrity author. You can't make a general complaint without the entire world coming to your aid. That says a lot about the power of off the cuff comments. It's a good thing she didn't mention being out of toilet paper or said something along the lines of “Gosh, my back itches! Would she be bombarded with TP or Cortizone? Good grief!
