It's The Holiday Season Once Again-Please Remember Others

ammorton's picture

As the holiday gets closer and closer, we all get caught up in the hustle and bustle of getting everything prepared, shopping for gifts, and food for dinners, and all involved in the excitement of family and friends spending time together. Sounds like great fun, and good memories.
I would like to remind everyone to stop for a couple of minutes and remember those who are less fortunate than some. There are plenty in every town, city, and state. Too many in my opinion.
If we all could just do one thing to help someone or an organization that helps people especially this time of year. We had a coat drive Saturday in my town. We also collect for the thrift store here and they help many families that have a hard time this time of year.
We collect food at the local grocery store and drop it in a basket as we leave.
We have a local radio station that has a program that they have done for a few years now called "Hope For The Holidays". It has worked wonders for some families that write in and explain their situations and some of these stories will pull at your heartstrings let me tell you. Some of the stories are just simple also, like people getting laid off right before Christmas, or getting hurt and not being able to work, you know, just falling on hard times here and there. As a result they get behind on mortgages or rent, utilities coming close to being shut off, no way to provide christmas to their small kids.
Next thing you know the phones are jumping with people wanting to give and help. It really makes you feel good to do something like this. It doesn't have to be much, every little bit helps.
Of course the radio station makes all the payments for the families to where they need to go. Gift cards are given to get the kids christmas and such. There is a specific grocery store that provides about $250.00 for food. There really isn't or hasn't been any thing they weren't able to fix for a family, it's such a good thing.
So, just a reminder that if you can do something to help out a person, or family, or an organization, please do, it really makes a difference in their lives.
It also makes you realize that you may not have it as bad and the next guy, or girl, so the next time your feeling down and out or having a little pity party for yourself, remember there is always someone worse off than you.

I have to admit, Ammorton,...

that I hate that bell from the United Way, or whoever that is, so I avoid them like the plague. But I've been giving to the folks that feed the poor since September, and I continue funneling my cash in that direction. Come Wednesday, I'll be donating food to another project that helps feed poor families around this time of year. So, I'm doing my little part.

Reviews of Everything, reviews and opinions of, well, almost anything!
