It's Just Money!!
Someone actually said that to me the other day!! They wanted to know "why all the fuss?"...Needless to say I was a little perplexed myself when she said that to me, being that she is on welfare and has NO clue about politics etc. So I asked her how she would feel if she was no longer able to receive welfare and she had to actually get a job when no one can find any decent work.
Now I know that the sum of billions of dollars is hard to fathom when most of us make a "regular" salary or hourly wage. This however is exactly why McCain gets the votes he does get...the people inclined to vote for him can't possibly understand just how messed up our economy really is.
We do care about the war and other issues as well, but right now we are facing one of the biggest bailouts in our history.
This lady I was talking to believes that this bailout will only affect people that actually work for a living. I tried to explain to her that the poorest of the poor will be directly affected as well, and that this will be going on for many years, because they have been stealing for many years too!
I do wonder about the poor and how this will impact them...Homeless people will have new companions due to the Mortgage meltdown, and the price of basics, such as food has sky rocketed so the soup kitchens will also be hurting. This is the greatest country in the world, and by the way we ARE one of the richest countries in the world as well and yet we can't seem to hire people that know how to balance a budget? I don't buy that, what I do buy (besides a higher tax bracket)is the fact that there are enough thugs on Wall street to ruin our foreseeable future.
I don't just blame Wall street, I also blame our corrupt Government and it's total lack of respect for the people that pay them their salaries. Time to clean house.

Just another example of the rich raping the poor
The most important thing to remember here is that the common man will continue to get raped and the rich will continue to get rich. The plan is to have the taxpayer pickup the huge losses generated by the poor decisions of the rich and let the rich continue raping the poor man.
The common man will still lose his home. The government will pay off the home, so the rich does not lose, and sell it at auction to some rich investor who will then put it on section 8 and collect more government money. So the only loser in this bailout is still the taxpayer.
I still say let the government pay three months mortgage payment for all citizens. This will put the banks even with where they should be and infuse cash back into the economy while at the same time giving the common man a chance to keep his home. If we are going to start screwing each other then I want my turn too.
Hmmm, I never thought of it that way Pancho

But you do bring up a couple of great points...I don't think that the three months mortgage pay out would work though...hell it makes too much sense. I also would be willing to bet that this has got many other economic issues attached to it as well. It started because of the Sub Prime loans but it didn't stop there, we literally are in debt to our eyeballs and we owe China and Japan tons of money, it's scary just how badly off we are currently. They need money for Mortgages and for STUPID risky behavior that no common American would get themselves involved in and yet they are still asking for their handout! They really are a shameless bunch!
What was her reaction, Sassys,...
when you said that to her? Did she get it, or just stare through you? And, just asking, but how did you feel after you said that to her? I don't think I could have said it.
Reviews of Everything, reviews and opinions of, well, almost anything!
LOL Well that's where you and I differ for sure!

I ALWAYS will question a stupid statement, and I am not one to keep silent even if the person in question is in a position of authority. It has gotten my butt in trouble more than once:D! She said that she has tried to get a job but that she has kids blablabla...so I told her that I do understand her situation, and that she needs to register to vote already! I also told her to start paying attention to her local politics!!
I'm trying hard not to be vicious here, Sassys.
Vicious to your friend - not you. And this comment will still sound pretty damned harsh.
I'm sure it is hard for someone who has collected welfare as a career to understand how people who have worked hard all their lives and saved and invested so that they could have a comfortable and safe retirement are now panicked when faced with their savings and investments being wiped out. When they are faced with the possibility of having to live on the streets and eat out of soup kitchens in their senior years instead of in their own homes or in well-run nursing homes.
People who rely on welfare as a career don't think about the future, don't think about what they will do when they don't have the money for expensive dental procedures that will allow them to continue chewing their food, don't think about what they will do when they are too sick and old to drag themselves to work and can't pay their electric or gas or grocery bills, even if they have managed to pay off the mortgages on their homes after 50 years of working for a living.
Someone who has lived off welfare and doesn't seem to mind letting the government pay for everything will not understand how difficult it will be for a person who has paid their own way all their life to live off Social Secutiry and a government medical program that will do nothing but pay a doctor to watch them while they suffer - cause it sure as hell won't pay a doctor to fix anything or apply any medical technique more costly than the application of a band-aid.
The closest a career-welfare recipient has come to buying into the American dream of a better life is to enjoy sitting on the couch watching day-time soaps and eating nachos made with government cheese. They don't have the slightest idea how good life can be with your own home, your own little patch of garden, healthy food and productive activities to fill your day.
Aw hell, I could spout for hours about this and give details that would bore even me. I know too damned many career-welfare idiots - half of my own family. And nothing you say will ever get through to them.
When the welfare check they get doesn't cover the cost of their heating bill, when their food stamps no longer buy enough mac & cheese to fill everyone's stomach, they will blame the government and still sit on their fucking couches and starve while watching Jerry Springer and blame everyone but themselves.
These are shaky
times alright and it all seems to happen at once. I don't think Western economies are going to come out of it unscathed. It's the rolller-coaster ride of capitalism.
What People Don't Get
Is this thing has been building for years. As soon as gas prices doubled then it set a domino effect in motion. EVERYTHING from fertilizer. a pair of jeans, to a lemon are affected by high oil prices. It means transporting those items is higher, it means storing those items is higher, it means producing those items cost more. So, people cut back. They travel less, they make fewer trips to the store, they buy cheaper brands and eventually, this trickles down to the manufacturer who lays off employees because he isn't getting the orders. Those employees can make it for a little while but then they falter on their loans and they lose their house. The cycle grows bigger with each new rise of the price of oil.
George Bush has had a "hands off" policy when it came to big business. He has let the oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies rape this country. What he has interfered with is our freedoms. He has literally pulled the rug out from under us.
What I can't understand is why Any blue collar worker would vote Republican at all. Isn't a blue collar Republican an oxymoron? If not an oxymoron, just a moron because the Republicans don't look out for these guys, they look out for the 1% good buddies of theirs.
Yep Mz. Zola!

And here in Atlanta we are starting to see people having fist fights at the gas pumps!! I saw that with my own eyes the other day when the gas station next to me was running low, people started to "cut in line" and all hell broke loose...it's amazing to see normal people acting in such a desperate way...We MUST get off oil! ALL OIL!! This is but one reason why McCain absolutely must not win this election...people are already acting irrationally, and this is just the beginning!
