It Appears The South Is Still The South

My daughter had quite an awful experience this past couple of days...I will start out by explaining how things led up to a shocking truth, and that is that despite attempts to look PC the South is still as backwards as it was in 1958!
She works in a little "campy" town called Avondale Estates and about 1 month ago she was in traffic when a policeman points at her and tells her to move her car forward, he then goes to the car in front of her and gives the driver a verbal warning and proceeds to then give my daughter a ticket for idleing in front of a firehouse! She says to him "but you told me to move up?" he says "I could give you another ticket for your license being old and somewhat crumpled"....
Now once she got the ticket she called that precinct every single day to try and find out how much her ticket would be...easier said then done! No one would answer that stupid phone!
She finally had no choice but to go to the appointed court date...and that's when she found a can of old filthy worms ready with their "good ole boy" can openers!
She noticed that she and one other woman were the only white "perps" in there and the only policemen she saw where all fat white men.
The judge asked her to tell him what happened and she did, then he asked the cop for his version and he even admitted that he only gave a warning to the car in front of her, and the judge looked at my kid and said "guilty"! She had to pay a whopping $155 dollar fine (rather I had to pay that whopper for her)and I was beyond pissed off when I got there...I asked this guy in a three pieced suit if they were short handed and he said no, then I said well then why doesn't anyone answer the phones? And how much is the "court fee?" he WALKED away without answering me!!! He got my drift though.
Then while my daughter was waiting for me to arrive another guy (black guy) comes in a little late and the judge asks him why he is late...now this fellow is black and obviously did not speak English to well, so he said "I couldn't find the building and my directions where wrong" the judge then tells him "That will be $200 dollar fine for being 20 minutes late" the fellow says "I don't have $200 dollars" and the judge then says "you will then spend 4 days in jail, bailiff arrest that man" They arrested him on the spot but while they were leading him out of the room another cop who was sitting there purposely tripped him!!!!
Then when the man got to his feet and said something this other cop slams him down into a chair and screams "I could give you another ticket, boy, for mouthing off, do you hear me, boy"? My daughter and everyone else (minus the cops and judge of course) were stunned! They then led him away.
Meantime my daughter asked the cop if this "probation" would go on her record and he said "Yes it will, and it just wont say WHY but it will be there"
ENTERS MAMA (Me) I immediately called my lawyer...and trust me when I tell you this is far from over, not my kid! UGH! Bastards! This is the year 2008....isn't it?

I only have one piece of advice - forget the lawyer, forget everything. Just move. Move far away and fast. That is a scary, scary place and I guarantee you I will never, ever be caught - dead or alive - in that place.

But, since I do know you and I know you're telling the truth and that you're not going to move, find out the name of the man that got tripped. It will be in the court records somewhere and your lawyer will be able to find it. He'll be a great witness and maybe he'll want to sue right along with you. Blow the fucking lid off that jerk-water place. (But get a gun, first.)

We took it even further and called the channel 5 action news team...they were horrified as well and are going to look into it...they did an expose on another redneck from hell town called Pine Lake...they have literally done a complete turn around! So I'm hoping that enough people read this and that enough people are as outraged as I am and together we can and will "take them down" Bastards! Another thing I forgot to mention was the fact that they kept referring to my daughter as "Sir" because she is gay...so she finally started calling them Ma'am...LOL.

or what they perceive to be their enemies...less then 30 years ago this town published a by law that said no one could put up a "for sale" or "for rent" signs because it would attract the "Gays, Blacks, and Jews" so to this day people in Avondale Estates have to use the internet or the newspapers to advertise that they are selling or renting. It's true and it's commonly practiced...the only black people that live in this town live in an apartment complex...and it is constantly being "checked out" by the cops too.

I'm familiar with bylaws like that. Having lived in Tenn. for 8 years and Texas for 26 years, I know the nastiness that can get put on the law books - and stay there. They'll use any excuse to keep things like that on the books, too. What is still amazing to me is that there are so many areas in the US like this. Of course, considering the amount of people that voted for Dubyah, and then for Huckabee, for god's sake, I don't know why I should be surprised.

What my kid went through was very nasty but at least she got to walk away...I really do fear for that black guy though, they were itching for a fight and ANY reason would do...I am glad that despite my daughter having inherited my temperament she kept it in check...they would have arrested her too!

Corrupt judges are hard to get though...my lawyer wants us to find out how long we have to appeal this case first...which means I will have to go down there in person because they don't answer the phones and I will have to see these assholes in person AGAIN:( I can't even begin to tell you how NOT looking forward to that I am:( I am also a leetle bit apprehensive about it because these are just the kind of people that would lynch me or burn me at the stake...literally that backwards!

What a fucking outrage! Yes, give them hell and then some more! Even when my sister was profiled in Texas and wrongfully detained and ticketed (her mistake ~ driving while Black), the judge was sooo pissed off that he threw the entire thing out and the law clerks were shaking in their boots! I hope to hell the news picks this up and exposes everything. This is just sickening and shouldn't happen in the bloody 21st century!

I'd ask you to keep in mind how shocked all of the Americans here are. I think all of us know that stuff like this happens, but it's REALLY rare. Thankfully. (BTW, I know you're not coming down against all Americans. It just saddens me that stories like this are representing our country.)

This is not a slant on all Americans...actually the fact that the shock was and is so palpable, says that we Americans do not accept this sort of behavior and when we encounter it we always do something about it. What is so shocking is not just the fact that they were so brutal, but the fact that they honestly believed that they would get away with it...and the scariest thing about that, is that they believed that because obviously they have been getting away with it for a very long time! But that was before they met me and my daughter...I know that it's tough to confront this kind of evil, but if we don't confront it ASAP they will just continue to behave that way. I am no coward, and bullies get theirs in the end.

It happened here in another town called Pine Lake and they have since done a complete turn around...thank god! But that was due to the media getting involved and once that happened the public outcry was amazing, that also tells me that your average American, when properly informed, does indeed care very much:)

it's not as overt up north, though it does happen. Thing is, up north you're more apt to have someone else see the behavior and call it out than you might see in the south. Not that it happens all the time, or course, but my personal experience is that sometimes others will see what's going on and decide to get into it for the other party.

And the numbers are somewhat different as far as demographics. There may be a bit more toleration up north because there are fewer minorities overall, not counting the big cities. Still doesn't excuse the behavior in any fashion.

it is less obvious and I am not too sure which is better...what I mean by that is that down South one tends to know who the bigots and racists are because they advertise it with their gun racks etc. You can see them coming...whereas up north it does indeed exist, but it's considered un PC. So they hide it.
