Islam, Judaism, Christianity: They're All Religions But So Is Science and Atheism

Submitted by Radreview on March 30, 2006 - 4:01pm.

Three strange dreams keep repeating themselves lately, and since it is something I have never faced, perhaps someone out there can explain what is happening here.

The first dream starts in a medium-sized town that appears modern, only the main street is dirt for some reason. No traffic, but plenty of well-dressed people parading in and out of the door of a business establishment, a restaurant or bar of some kind. Pretty regular kind of scene.

It's night, but down the street some kind of commotion can be seen from a distance, along with an orange glow that increases in intensity, very rapidly. Then you feel the heat. It gets hot very fast. Then a wispy wind of debris, burning paper, smoke, and a large crowd of screaming people trying to outrun what looks to be some kind of firestorm.

Dream ends.

I will get to the second and third dreams later because, suddenly, I really don't want to say anything more.

As for those professed atheists out there, please be advised that atheism is just as much a religion as all the others. So is paganism, and materialism, and capitalism.

But for any experts out there who can explain why we are all here and why the universe exists, or if it's a hologram as Scientific American stated recently, please step up and provide some answers or at least some entertaining guesses.

Or is it all one sick joke?

I agree about atheism but not about science

Because, unlike the others, science is not a belief system (though it's often, and wrongly, presented that way in the mass media). I've blogged on the "science" bit a couple of places, like here and here.

I happen to believe that we live in an objective reality, but I can't address that topic and make my meeting at 6:30 PST.

As for your dream, perhaps Ivy Alexander is still on duty ... :)

Thanks for the dreamy tip ...

... hopefully it will help me deal with the religion of science.

I slightly disagree on

I slightly disagree on things such as atheism being a religion, although this may be more semantics than anything else. Belief system- yes. Religion- no. Religion is concerned with the agreed rules of a belief system and spirituality. It concerns itself with how one should live and what happens when they die. Generally, Christians agree that there is a guy named Jesus who lived 2000 years ago and he is an enlightened fill in the blank (person, savior, prophet, messenger, etc). Atheists tend to not agree on a lot of things, including what happens when you die. Agnostics are even more confusing. lol

Why do I believe we are on this planet? I dunno. I can't answer for mankind, and even if I could, I'd rather not have to. Most days you would be fairly accurate to describe me as a solipsist.

solipsist, reality

That's interesting IntricateGirl. So be it then! And let it be proclaimed that your reality is a lovely reality indeed:) I am THE REALITY! However, I'm not who I think I am. I'm something far more. In fact, we all are. The secret's of my life are buried in deep places.

ROFL! My reality is

ROFL! My reality is amazing. I swear to you, just last night I laid in bed awake for several hours past my bedtime wondering if I could even call myself that. I mean, sure I have my own experiences, and I think they are all real or a very well constructed fantasy, but I can't exactly proove it. I can feel it with my senses, but senses can be tricked. So I am just an elaborate fantasy in someone else's imagination??

And no, no drugs were involved in this thought process, although I'll admit that after reading the above paragraph, perhaps there should be. :D
