Apparently mine is.
Current research suggests that everything from the size of your plates to the color of your curtains can have an affect on what you put in your mouth.
I always knew that color affected mood, you won’t ever find a hospital wall painted orange, pale blue and green are doctors’ colors of choice (they have a calming affect on the human psyche). What I didn’t know was that surrounding yourself with blue and green is also a great way to suppress your appetite whereas colors like red and orange can actually stimulate it.
So if you’re fighting the battle of the bulge in a kitchen with bright yellow walls, you might want to rethink your color scheme.
While my kitchen walls are a diet friendly eggshell, my plates are an appetite fueling orange. Could this be the reason I always feel the urge to eat two giant bowls of pasta instead of just one? It’s possible.
It's also possible that I’m eating out of a bowl that’s too large. Eating from a small plate/bowl filled to the brim tricks your mind into thinking you've eaten more than enough, whereas eating from a large/bowl plate with lots of space, may make you crave a second helping.
My final sin is eating in front of the TV. Studies have shown that people who eat in front of their televisions are less conscious of what they are putting in their mouths and end up eating more than those who sit at a dinning room or kitchen table.
But while TV is a weight loss hindrance, slow classical music apparently helps emotional eaters eat less. Like the color blue, slow classical music has an uplifting, calming, appetite suppressing effect.
Goodbye Oprah, hello Mozart.
