Is There Such A Thing as a Good Mechanic?

Submitted by ms zola on August 18, 2006 - 5:57pm.

It seems these days that no one can actually repair a car. At least not in Texas. I think anyone who can change oil in a car figures he can call himself a mechanic and hang a shingle out the front door of his garage.

The problem is: No one seems to be able to much more than change the oil and I am beginning to wonder if they can really do that! Wal-Mart WAS my choice for an oil change but they have shorted me as much as two quarts of oil and stole my sons mp3 player out of my car. Aside from that, I paid for the deluxe service and got gypped out of that.

Lately, I have tried to get an electrical problem solved. So far...no luck....everyone claims to be a mechanic, but unfortunately they can't fix a car. I spend more time getting our cars repaired than I do at home. And I am sick of the smell of gasoline and stepping in oil spots.

Is there any way of finding a decent mechanic? Do they REALLY exist? I have my doubts....either that or I live in a mechanic's blackout zone........oh.....have I mentioned the doctors here? Well, I think they left with the mechanics!

Heh. I'm sorry you can't find a good mechanic. We happen to have a mechanic within walking distance, and he's really good, really cheap, and really knows what he's doing. And believe it or not, we have a good doctor too. And a good handyman, and a good plumber (who's REALLY cheap), and a nice maillady...

I know, I know. I might as well be telling you that I have a unicorn in my basement.

I wanna live where you live.....we have never spent less than $1,000.00 getting the air conditioner repaired in our cars....right now, no one can find the electrical problem in my son's car.....we spend and spend and spend and get very few results.....as far as Doctors? My daughters two month old baby was given a perscription which was 10X the adult dosage...fortunatly she thought the perscription for zantax (or something like that) the stomach medicine was ridiculous for an infant and had not filled the perscription.

I wish these were the only horror stories but they are not!
