Is "The OC" Really "A Show That Defined A Generation"?

Fox is boasting in its promo spots for "The OC" that it is "The show that changed a generation". While I find it to be a show abundant in sexy female eye candy and thin & unbelievable yet strangely interesting plots, I think this boast from Fox is stretching things a bit far. "The OC" is only in its 3rd season and is far too vapid or shallow to influence anything more than the fashions worn by teenage girls attending suburban high schools. The show has made no major statements and only addresses serious social problems and social questions from a very distant, ditzy viewpoint. If "The OC" is indeed a show that changed a generation, I can't help but perceive that generation as anything other than a bunch of morons. Starring Peter Gallagher, Benjamin McKenzie, Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, & Melinda Clarke, "The OC" airs at 9 PM Eastern on Fox.
