Is it Faith or Foolishness

Faith is a difficult concept. It is the blind acceptance or assurance of something. Faith is forging onward despite many unknowns.

When I think of faith I often remember the story of the apostle Peter in the boat whan a storm came up. If you recall the story, Jesus ame out to the boat by walking on the water. At first the men thought that it was a ghost or a vision. When they realized it was Jesus, Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. He was looking at Jesus and had faith that his master would save them. However, when Peter looked down, he began to quaver and he began to sink. If he had kept his gaze up and on Jesus, perhaps his faith would continue to stand firm. But, he looked down and began to panic.

We are like Peter in so many ways. We try our best to step out in faith, yet we try to analyze, rationalize, and look down. Before we know it we begin sinking. How do we know that, when we face a decision, we are stepping out in faith, or are we just being foolish and naive. Peter stepped out in faith, but was he foolish too? I'm sure the others in the boat thought he was crazy. The key to discernment between faith and foolishness is prayer. God will lead you where you should go. Just keep your eyes on him and take the first step.
