Is her Angel or Devil?

On new year eve of 2006, Shu a 23 years old countryside teacher, look at the whole family with tears in eyes. Shu’s father looks at her face and speaks to his 3 sons: “you can’t forget your sister if the life getting better in the future�.
This make Shu recall her bitter experience.

During the new year of 2002, as the elder daughter, she begin to betrayed her body not just because earn one’s bread, she need money to pay for 3 of her brother’s school fees and the huge debt that owing by her family. After this, Shu teaching in countryside’s school from Monday to Friday as usual and prostitution in city during weekend. Two years later, Shu ends prostitution because of morality condemn and disease.

At the end of 2005, through emailing Shu upload abstracts in the major china website about her story. The blog is about her 4 years difficult life and struggling between families and confess. This blogs cause the attention of society. Is her angel, or devil?

Origin of huge debt
Shu live in a village of southern china, her single storey house located beside a road, you can see the plastic pails everywhere inside the house, the pails are use when raining to collect leaking from the roof, and they have no money to repair the shabby house.
Shu’s first younger brother study in one of the university in city of northern china, the second and third younger brother in high school, she need almost 20k per year ( RMP) to support their school fees. Actually, her second younger brother has accepted by university last year but consider of the affordability of family he prefer retain a year in high school until the older brother graduate and get a job. The above burden to cause her family owing new debt about 4k in year 2005 and they still have huge amount of debt from year 1994.

About the 200k huge debt, in year 1994 from “village fund community�, Shu’s father borrowed money of 140k for buying a truck, her parent starting to do a business. But about 3 to 4 years time the high management fee and 3 times accidents totally destroy this business. The amount they owing “village fund community� plus interest is about 200k. Because of toil, finally Shu’s father faced an operation to remove the gall, sooner later it also affect the function of liver, he not only owing the huge debt, unfortunately he unable to bear the heavy work anymore.

But Shu’s father still planting the Lychee fruit and banana in the orchard because of the huge debt, although the life is hard, Shu’s parent still want their sons continue their studying. To break away from the life now the only way is further study and get a certificate. Year 2000, Shu graduated from a college, three of her brother in turn to study in high school. Shu’s father sold his truck at a low price 10k (bought 140k) to settle his son’s schools fees.

According to Shu, if her parent don’t let them further study, the life will be much better. In this village, almost every family will become poorer if their child further study in university. From inquiry, there are only few of the villager apply for university because most of the villager can’t afford to bear the fees and worry the fees will increase their burden.
