Is everyone getting taller and will it ever stop

akatzman's picture

Ever noticed how people are getting taller and taller? The average human height is increasing every year as health and medicine and nutrition improve throughout the world. So this begs the question. Will it ever stop? Will we hit a plateau? Or will we continue to get taller and taller. one hundred years from now will the average human be seven feet tall? That would be weird. Think how many things would have to change. Cars would have to be bigger. Ceilings would have to be higher. Planes would have to have more room. There are potentially dramatic changes that would have to occur. Heck, they may have to raise the goal in basketball. This is not a good sign for someone like me who is already on the short side. I just hope that when I have kids one day they will outgrow me.

Taller and Larger

I think you make valid points but I think people getting larger and wider is more quickly becoming a greater concern and design issue for industrial designers. http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/diet.fitness/01/10/obesity.risks.ap/index.html

Somewhat taller and much much fatter

They are slowly getting taller but quickly getting fatter. Projected 100 years from now, the average 30-year old Caucasian male in the U.S. will be about 6'8" and weight around 600 pounds. "Compact cars" of that era will be the size of a 1973 Cadillac El Dorado to fit the girthy passengers. Passenger planes will only be able to accomodate 1 person PER AISLE. And motorcycles will look more like jeeps.

yikes

that is disgusting. they just need to raise the prices on fattening foods and lower prices on healthy foods and it will make a lot of difference.
