Is Buying an Existing Domain Name a Profitable Choice for Your Businesses?
We all run out and buy a domain name about two years before learning what a waste of time it was. However, buying domain names is a tricky business. Many of the domain names for sale are not on the search engines and don't receive any hits. So, it is better to buy a new domain name for $8.00 (www.godaddy.com) instead of buying a 'resellers' domain for $25 - $100.00
There is an easy way to test a domain name
just type the word site: and then the domain name
site:www.inspiredauthor.com
Don't ever bid until you do this and learn whether the website is real, with at least 50 pages, or if it is just a parked domain that is trying to rip off an unsuspecting business owner.
That will tell you how many pages are recognized by the search engines. It will also tell you what you need to NAME your pages, to KEEP the search engine recognition.
For example: If a domain name is www.WHAMCanada.com Google lists the pages as www.WHAMCanada.com/index.htm,
However, if you do find a domain name with several hundred of hits a month, and use the page titles that are already recognized by search engines, you will be a year (maybe two) ahead of the rest of us who 'learned by trial and error.'
