IS A SPANISH VERSION OF THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER GOING TO FAR?
A lot of internet bloggers are upset over the idea of a Spanish verison of the "Star Spangled Banner". The question is, does anyone have the right to say this is a bad idea! Is America a place, or is it an idea not yet fully recognized?
Is it time for a change in the way we do business in this country?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

When I first heard of this Spanish version ...
... of the national anthem, I was worried, but about what? The idea stays the same. America is America, no matter what language is used.

There’s More Where This Came From
it's not the language
America is a dream, a whisper as it were. I have a deep seated worry I can't yet explain. I've seen a thing that disturbs me. I've watched immigrants group together, as if another country were being transplanted before my very eyes. In time, this community grows and outsiders are made to fee like strangers. There are values that we all have to share to move forward and co-exist peacefully.
I've travelled exstinsively, and when in other places and lands, I always attempt to fit and and adapt to the culture as quickly as possible.
The goal is keep ones culture intact. But it has to be transplanted into something that we all share.
With many of the immigrants coming across the border---that mind set is not in place. This lies at the heart of the challenge on all sides of the equation.
I agree with the Moor.
I agree with the Moor. Moving to another country is about assimilation into that culture. That doens't mean giving up your own idenity and values, but it means adapting to co-exist.
A spanish national anthem isn't assimilating-it's creating a new idenity/culture that is so far away from the one that is here, that it seems almost hostile.
I think it's a bad idea as it might encourage people to not try to learn the english version of the song which in turns only gives the people that don't want the immigrants here, more ammo to fire off.
Assimilarion Means Learning a National Language
and if I am not mistaken, the last I checked, it happens to be English in America. I mean if people wish to be Americans, I guess they're duty bound to AT LEAST learn the language (not be grammarians, but at least LEARN it). I frankly find it ludicrous to hear any national anthem in any other language. Should the Star Spangled have a Spanish version, other moborities can demand that they have their own version too ! Sfter all, it isn't only the Hispanics who are immigrants of the USA!
