They Hang Hoss thieves Don't They?

justice | law

I don't know how accurate those old cowboy and western movies are but from what I can gather, they used to hang hoss thieves. I understand those reasons too, because a horse could be all that stood between a man and life and death. So when you steal a man's horse you could be virtually robbing him of his life.

Today things are a little different in that instead of a single horsepower biological animal we have a mechanical beast with heaps more horsepower. When a car is taken, instead of calling it theft they call it joy riding. Instead of being a hanging offence we give the culprit a slap on the wrist.

Never mind that the car was totalled, or that it belonged to a mother whose only form of transport to take her sick child to a hospital has gone missing. The fact that the jerk who took the car had absolutely no thought of what consequenses his actions would produce and knew that if caught absolutely nothing would happen.

Are we for real? Ok I admit that hanging the asswipe might be a little harsh but I am sure if we put our collective minds together we could come up with something more suitable. Ok guys I am open for suggestions. We have just caught two freakin idiots red handed with a stolen car that they have totalled. What do we do with them? Should I go get the rope?
