Newspapers around the world during the last two days featured an article on the record numbers of men and women downloading pornography from the Internet in Britain. The survey was conducted by The Independent. The findings state that around 40% of the male population visited porn sites during the last year. The survey also found that women are among the fastest growing users of pornography on the Internet.

Earlier it was hard for children to get introduced to pornography but with the arrival of internet things have become quite easy. The survey itself says that children found adult sites ‘while looking for something else.’ I feel no survey can predict the impact internet porn is going to have on the societies around the world. So what effect is Internet Porn having - is it destroying the beauty of sex?

The effect of pornography is similar to the use of cocaine or marijuana or any other similar drugs. It creates a momentary excitement, which leads to complete loss of consciousness. Things take an ugly turn when people start to try out things they saw on the porn sites with their partners. Some of the stuff that is found on Internet porn sites are quite shocking. This destroys the beauty of sex and most people tend to have guilty consciousness after the act.

Foreplay, one of the most important parts of sex, is lost due to the influence of pornography. Foreplay is vital for a good relationship between the partners. Ignoring foreplay will lead to tension in the relationship as one partner finds that ‘she has been used.’ People watching pornography remembers the scene during the act and in the process ignores the need of the partner.

Coitus is given importance in many pornographic films. The modern editing techniques show coitus happening for a long period. But in reality the length rarely matches with that shown in the films. Several wrong notions regarding sex is send out through the porn sites, which is creating lot of psychological problems.

The beauty of sex, which lies in the touch, kiss, pampering…, is lost. Sex has already been killed by the religions around the world. Internet pornography will soon bury it.
