In The South It's A Bug...In The Civilized World It's A Bat!!!

bugs | child sponsorship | home buying

Ok so this ones for Catfish who refuses to even contemplate visiting the South because of the big bugs.

I have to say that I tend to poo poo him and laugh at the fact that bugs scare him. Well the other night I was sitting quietly on my little screened in porch having a cup of tea and a smoke, when out of the corner of my eye I see the screen "move in"...

I mean the screen actually had a large dent in it! So being the inquisitive IDIOT that I am, I get up closer to have a look see and this GIGANTIC water bug flies right in my face!

It sounded like a leer jet taking off, and I mean the bloody thing was huge and not scared of me at all. This is not the kind of bug one can use a fly swatter on...no, no, it requires a Tennis Racket and then you better have a good aim because they will fly at you.

So the bug wins! I sit inside angry at myself for letting such a minor thing "bug" me, but then again it really was spooky as hell! ARGH!

That's what you get, Sassys,...

for poo-pooing my thoughts on this subject. I would have been packing my bags and heading home after something like that. No thanks! Now, ask me again why I live in the northeast; ugh!

You know- I think the south just harbours

alot bigger insects. We were in Tennessee one year, about August, for a family reunion. My poor little girls got ate up by the biggest mosquitos I had ever seen! These things were the size of our May flies, at least the size of a quarter or half dollar. These girls looked like they had a severe case of the measles, only the bites were bigger than measles bumps. It was horrible. So I believe that the bugs are much bigger down south, although, I would still visit there, sorry Catfish, lol.

Yikes, Sassys!

Guess you'll be spending the nights inside from now on? I know I damned sure would!

My cat once caught a moth the size of a hummingbird and that freaked me out so bad I kept him in the house for weeks!

i would have had a heart attack

i have an enourmous phobia of roaches and anything that looks like them. we lived in florida for 2 years when i was a kid and i thought i was in hell. we lived in an old house an although my mom is obssesively clean there were always little cracks & stuff through which these water bugs, palmetto bugs or roaches....whatever you wanna call them would crawl in. it never ceased to amaze me how such a huge insect coudl crawl in through such small spaces. i found one in my bed once and i think i am truamatized about that to this day. good luck with your "neighbors" i hope your raid and tennis racket works!!! just dont swing the racket so hard that the bugs end up flyin all the way over to me! LOLOL!

Sassys

The thing that creeps me out the most about these "bugs" is that they squish their bodies in such a way...almost like a tiny bug contortionist! But PW saved the day by telling me about white light versus yellow lights...somehow they are not attracted to yellow lights and will stay away from them...so the very next day I got some yellow lights and VOILA!!! Now I can sit out on my porch at night and write my little blogs in peace:)

bug contortionism!

that is both hilarious and totally creepy at the same time! yikes! i can totally envision them....ugh.....i never heard about the yellow lights, but that is a great piece of advice....i'll have to rememeber that if i ever live in the south again! glad you got your porch back! :-D
