Immigration Debate: Hot Debate Even Among Friends

Submitted by theclassy1 on May 17, 2006 - 5:08pm.

Today I got an email that really upset me. It was regarding the immigration debate. I am the wrong person to send an email with some quote made by ANDY ROONEY of all people-can you get anymore Arian (for lack of a racier word)?

I don't care what Andy Rooney says on 60 minutes especially when he is ranting about complete nonsense. He would never know what an illegal immigrant goes through. I am not an illegal immigrant and I have been told to go back to my country and called a wetback by Caucasians. Oh by the way, I was born in Manhattan. This is my country, but to those people full of hate, it isn't my country. What do I have to say to them?

THIS ISN'T YOUR COUNTRY EITHER! YOU STOLE IT FROM THE NATIVE AMERICANS, REMEMBER?

No one is going to change my mind. I have been through enough discrimination in my OWN COUNTRY to know that speaking English will not pacify these haters. I speak English without an accent. I have been told I look European-I should my great grandparents were from France and Spain, but both of my parents were born in Puerto Rico. That makes me a SPIC in their eyes. Regardless of what my birth certificate says, they will always judge me by my looks and subject me to their hate.

Think before you send out an email that perpetuates hate because you may just lose a friend.

Says theclassy1, "Let me spew my hatred of most Americans, but don't you DARE disagree with me!" Who's being unreasonable here?

I don't hate most Americans and that is a ludicrous statement on your part. My inner circle of friends are from many different races including white, but obviously they are not racist! That's exactly why I don't like the BEHAVIOR of the haters making statements that are promoting racism.

The fact that America was stolen from the Native Americans is the truth. The Bronx was purchased for a few dollars and BEADS. The FOREIGNERS that came here to colonize took advantage of the naive and trusting Native Americans.

By making that ludicrous statement you proved my point. I am an American. Your reading comprehension is atrocious. I stated I was born in this country.

I'm not being unreasonanble. Unlike Andy Rooney's remarks which offended everyone except his race and gender, I am merely stating that race, place of birth and language does not disqualify anyone from being an American, whether born here or not. This is supposed to be the Land of Oportunity. That's why the settlers came here. Read the Constitution...

Got it, Amadeus?
