I'll Take the Heat!

ModelMom's picture

I was starting to think that being heavily pregnant would be easier in the winter than in the summer because of the heat factor, etc.....but now I am starting to rethink that. I gave birth to my son in June...In Los Angeles. It was hot and smoggy, not too pleasant, but I never ran out of clothes that were cute and non-binding. There are so many adorable peasant type tops I got to wear, skirts and such. The best part of being pregnant in the summer, or a warmer climate in general, was getting to wear flip flops.

Seeing as I am 5 1/2 months along, and as big as I was at 7 1/2 months with my son, I am really starting to resent the weather here in Portland. All of a sudden, I am having major difficulties pulling shoes and boots on......not to mention socks. I want my flip flops, but also don't want to lose my toes to frost bite!

And I am not a fan of wearing layers and sweaters and other clothes that bind over my belly. I like to have some freedom of movement (for what little movement I have left) and trick or treating with my son last night in 38 degree weather with high winds wrapped in a hat, gloves, shirt, sweater, coat & scarf made me feel like a sausage about to burst out of its casing. Not fun. I think a little sweat and some gauzy tops with sandals is much more up my alley.......*sigh*.

lol! Both of mine were in the winter, and I was convinced that HAD to be better than a summer pregnancy. Interesting to find out the differences. :D

I'm going to suggest something I thought I never would suggest. Boho. Something with an empire waist and long sleeves. Then you can fit a pregnancy tank top under it for added warmth. Maybe a shrug on top, and a coat over it. Some wide leg tailored pants allow you to hide pregnancy tights under it.

If nothing else, resort to wearing hubby's wardrobe. The menswear look is coming back.

great tips, Intricate!!

thanks for the wardrobe tips! i have been at a loss with this winter pregnancy thing. another thing i forgot to add was that now i am int eh middle of cold & humid weather which breeds illness like mad. i never got sick while preg with my son, but so far have had 2 head colds and the stomach flu. talk about running through the gauntlet!

i like the idea of boho tops.....that way i can layer my tanks from when i was preg with my son underneath. i still would rather be in maui or something in my flips and tank..........no layers. and a little bit of a tan would work wonders on this awesome pregnancy acne i am getting this time around. LOL!
