As you can see in the sidebar, I am 32. I grew up with the Dukes of Hazzard cereal bowl and the plastic Fonzie coffee mug. Eeeeeeeey!
When I was in the second- or third-grade, an obscure little show came on the air one night which changed my life forever. It was called A-Team. You might have heard of it...
Though he had previously appeared in one of the Rocky movies, A-Team made Mr. T a household name almost overnight. With his frohawk and 34097234097 gold chains, not to mention his famous catch-phrase, "Whachoo talkin bout, Willis?"
Wait...
"I pity the fool." That was it.
Like Mr. T, the catch-phrase was being uttered in classrooms around the country the day after the first episode aired. He soon had his own Saturday morning cartoon, then his own breakfast cereal, then he became a professional rassler for a while, then he disappeared.
Now he's back on TVLand's newest reali-T show, I Pity the Fool. The premise is simple enough: T travels the country, helping various families, businesses, and organizations with their problems in his patented Mr. T fashion.
There's nothing new here, but the show is actually a fun view. It's definitely family-friendly and even though most younger viewers might not know who T is, he's still likable enough (and his appearance still unique enough) that they will watch.
T is a really calm, peaceful guy who talks about how much he loves his mama, quotes poetry, and recites his own haikus. And he may even have some sort of psychological learning or other training, because he actually handles guests very well. Of course, I have no idea how much of it is scripted or how many behind-the-scenes experts are working alongside to make the whole thing go.
Still, it's definitely good enough for at least one viewing. In fact, I pity the fool who don't watch it. So, don't gimme no jibba-jabba and drink yo milk!
