I Am Back From San Antonio!!

sight seeing | texas | travel | Trip

Well I made it back from my trip to San Antonio, Texas. I went down there to see my oldest daughters boyfriend graduate from his basic training from the Air Force.
We had a great time, especially since when we left here it was 11 degrees and I was all bundled up in my coat and gloves. We get down to Texas and it is in the 60's.
The day we left it was almost 80 degrees and I came back to 40's on Monday.

We stayed on Lackland Air Force Base alot of the time. That is also where our hotel was. Everything was so military, and very diciplined.

There were several things going on to do with the graduation, so for some of the time we were busy with that.

We did leave base to attend the San Antonio Rodeo. Now mind you I am not at all a country cowgirl or a rodeo lover- at all, just the opposite actually. But the airmen all signed up for the rodeo so they could stay off base later instead of being back at 7:30pm.

We went to the Alamo and took a boat ride along their beautiful Riverwalk area that spans 2 1/2 miles through their downtown area.
I also had never seen palm trees until going to San Antonio.

I will say this, there is a major shortage of rock and roll stations in Texas. No offense to those who adore country music, but if I had to listen to anymore country music any longer, I think I would have slit my wrists-seriously! Lots of country, and mexican music. I found a couple of stations that played a variety of 70's, 80', and 90's pop music, and I tolerated that.

Overall, I really enjoyed getting away, god knows I dont do this near enough. I absolutely loved being on the air force base and getting to see lots of planes up close and fighter planes as well. Just watching planes land and take off was really cool. I took lots of pictures which I will be posting on my myspace page in the next few days or so.

So, other than my music withdrawl, I really did miss my computer as well as getting on here and reading what everyone was writing and commenting on. I guess you could say that I missed you all terribly and I have lots to catch up on.

ammorton, I'm right there

with you on the country music. It is cruel and unusual punishment. I think I hate it so much (besides the fact that it sucks) because it reminds me of the time that I spent in the south. Not a fun experience...

Come and see what I'm rambling about now

Was this when you were little Sean?

I agree...it really does feel like punishment. I couldn't wait to get home so I could listen to Disturbed, or Sixx AM, or Three Days Grace, etc.......I just missed my music.

ammorton,

yes, when I was a kid and recently when I went back for my father's funeral. I got lost in Kansas while trying to get to Missouri because the stupid freeway interchange in Nebraska was closed. While I was in Kansas all I could get on the radio was fire and brimstone evangelists or country. It was terrible.

Come and see what I'm rambling about now

were you on the outskirts of any big city Sean

that would definately explain it. If your in my area we have a great Kansas City station- KQRC-98.9 The Rock. Great music, great DJ's. Dont know about any other city. I remember when we were driving west and then into Oklahoma, it was country or the church stations.

ammorton, honestly

I don't remember where I was but a big city was not at all apart of it. It was right on the border of Nebraska and was about the last 100 or so miles of the north eastern part of Kansas, before you get into Missouri.

Please help me to get Obama to come to Portland. Click this link.

Yep Sean,you were out there

and I mean that in a "traveling" kind of way..lol. You were around St. Joseph area, and it is all country.

Imagine, ammorton

having a music situatiion even worse than that! In Big Spring, I got in two radio stations (beyond the one country one that only sort of came in) One was soft rock - not the cool kind with songs you'd actually LIKE to remember! The other was a "current" 80's and now station who's current list consisted of songs I'd already heard on New Orleans a solid year before!

those stations Spooky

that your talking about, ya, there was I think two of them that did the same thing. The rest were nothing but country or talk radio.

I'm so out of touch

with current music it's a sin! My brother, thankfully, has been clueing me in to what's new and what each song is all about. Like, the other day on the way to shop, an Ozzy song came on the radio and he informed me that it's his first song done while sober! LOL Maybe not news worthy to some, but for me it's been great to get caught up!

But, even with that, I've been getting caught up on Foo Fighters songs that I've missed during the last couple of years! lol
Can't help it - I love Dave Grohl! I MIGHT even hit there gig in Arazona if it coincides with the drive to New Mexico!

I keep up alot with music Spooky

it seriously sticks with me. I follow alot of it down to detail, I guess it's alot like a serious hobby. I want to buy as much of it as I can, and see as many groups and people as I can.
Funny you should mention Ozzy, because when we went to the Alamo, I told my daughter that this reminds me of two things. First-it reminds me of John Wayne. Second-it reminds me of Ozzy because way back in his massive drug and drinking days, he and his group had a show in San Antonio, and they all were sight seeing at the Alamo, and Ozzy in his drunkeness, had to go the bathroom. Well, he proceeds to go on the Alamo. Needless to say, he was arrested and banned from the city of San Antonio. My daughter just looks at me and says "how do you know this stuff"? I just laughed at her.
I am a Foo Fighters fan also, they won two Grammy's last night and did a great performance of their song "The Pretender".

LOL Ammorton

Sassys

Not even "Save a horse ride a cowboy?" I like some country stuff...especially the funny stuff..like "You can't roller skate in a Buffalo herd" Only a cowboy would come up with a title like that. We missed you too:)

ammorton's picture

No Sassys...not even "Save a Horse"

I am just not country in any way shape or form. I dont even find the cowboy guys attractive at all. I like the biker, kind of rugged look alot better and the music, well I have said all I can say about country with out totally offending anyone--lol.

Pussy Willow's picture

O lord, Sassys, Roger Miller wasn't a cowboy.

He was so very much better than a cowboy.

Ammorton, I agree with you 100% on the cowboys. Have you ever seen two cows getting it on - or two horses? It's all pretty much wham-bam and forget the thank-you-ma'am. My experience with cowboys is pretty much the same as that, too - and I was married to one. Now, I'm right partial to my cousins, etc., who I think are cute-as-buttons when they're out there riding those bulls, but then, I don't have "those feelings" for my cousins. LOL!

As far as the country music goes, there is one reason - and one reason only - for country music and that is so you can dance the Texas Two-Step to it. When you're not dancing, the crap is intolerable.

Glad you had a good time on your trip. The riverwalk in San Antonio is one of my favorite places in the world. I really love Dirty Nellie's and I love sitting out by the river, eating or having a drink and just watching the people walk by.

Yes I loved the Riverwalk PW

It really was the coolest thing. We actually ate at a mexican resturaunt that even served breakfast. It was the authentic food too, not that Taco Bell crap. I have alot of pics, but havn't gotten them loaded into my computer yet. I remember seeing Dirty Nellie's too. I wanted to see it at night when the lights were all lit up along the river, but we were not able to.
